The Closed Empire Cinema Site is officially to become Vue and the people of Swindon cant wait to get back to watching their favourite blockbuster films when the doors open at the Greenbridge site with an all new refurbished cinema experience. What more, if you are a Sky Cinema subscriber, you will be entitled to two FREE cinema tickets every month!

The 12-screen site is set to open very soon to bring the big screen back to Greenbridge, with investment being made in a comprehensive refit to take place in 2024 that will see it transformed into a full recliner seating venue.

The IMAX screen will reopen first, before work starts on the refit, although an exact date has not yet been given, making the portfolio of Vue Cinema sites to 91, featuring 850 screens around the UK & Ireland.
Located at Greenbridge Retail Park, Vue will join existing neighbours, Nuffield Health, Pizza Hut along with a myriad of shops and a soon to-be-opened Hollywood Bowl, and is set to be the ideal location for a family day out.
Toby Bradon, General Manager of Vue UK and Ireland said: “Bringing Vue to Swindon is something we are very excited about. At Vue we love bringing the best of the big screen to customers, and this is exactly what we are going to do very soon at this new site, with our new Swindon customers soon able to enjoy all the latest blockbusters, classic titles and the best in live music, sport and theatre.
“We can’t wait to bring the big screen experience back to Greenbridge and we can be sure that all our customers will get lost in great stories with us.”
Vue Cinema’s website also now says: “Big screen entertainment is coming to Swindon. Opening soon in Greenbridge Retail Park.”
It added: “Hey Swindon, something big is coming your way!
“What’s big, orange, entertaining and coming to Swindon soon? – Yep, you guessed it. It’s a new Vue venue.”
Vue’s website is also encouraging people to sign up to become a Vue member and select Swindon as their local cinema to receive emails and be ‘among the first to know when Vue Swindon opens’.
Restaurant & retail owners and management at the Greenbridge Retail Park have responded with relief and joy of the confirmed news of the cinema reopening.
Restaurants particularly have felt the financial pinch due to Empire closing as the lower footfall at the retail park has had a major affect on their business such Frankie and Benny’s, a chain that was already struggling across the country has since closed at the Greenbridge Retail Park.
Luke Jacobs, the general manager at Fiesta De Cuba responded to the re-openning of the cinema by saying “We are obviously happy to have a cinema going back in there and I think Vue was the best option that could have been in there as I know they offer cheap tickets,”.
“So we are relieved and happy to hear that one is coming back in because it helps with business and brings in a bit of footfall in the area rather than having a big derelict building.”
