Highworth May Day is fast approaching and this year is looking to be bigger than ever! With approximately 70 stalls alongside the regular Saturday Market and High Street shops such as Bloomfields, Andrews Butchers, Chloe’s Bakery and Smarts Chip Shop, visitors and residents of Highworth will be guaranteed an exciting fun packed day for the whole family.

Local Highworth based events company Fandangos are also extremely excited about being involved in this years event who along with the entertainment such as maypole dancing, live bands, owner of Fandangos Tom announced that they will be providing the outside bar at the heart of the action.

Stalls at this years events:

Approximately 70 stalls are confirmed for this weekends event including Bloomfields, Cabin & Cowshed, and an amazing selection of local traders offering cards, homemade cakes and cheese, cider, hair accessories, ceramics, chilli and jams, wooden carved gifts, silver jewellery, photos and books, sweets, plants, water bottles, coasters, placemats and an array of gift ideas and keepsakes, oh! Did we mention cider?

Kids Entertainment:

There will be farm animals, face painting, and lots of entertainment for the kids that will wipe them out for all you parents giving you a quiet night to see out the fun packed day chilled on the sofa.

Visit Highworth:

The volunteers of Visit Highworth in the high street will be open as usual offering a fantastic array of local artwork, crafts and gifts. The team at Visit Highworth are looking forward to the weekends event and pleased to support the May Day festivities.

Highworth Turkish Barbers:

In need of a trim? Well no need to book, check out Highworth’s only Turkish Barbershop, speaking to the shop owner, he said: “This will be the second year we’ve been open in Highworth and really looking forward to seeing the community coming together this weekend for lots of fun!”

Food & Drink:

This years Highworth May Day is going to be one amazing fun packed day thats going to give you a great appetite and as well as the stalls, the pubs, restaurants and food business along the high street have you covered! Smarts Chip Shop as always will be open all day serving up their tasty fish and chips menu, try out the battered mars bar as a treat! We promise you, you’ll be back for another!

Bloomfields, who are celebrating their 15th Anniversary this year as well as a stall will be open all day for coffee and their deli. The stall which can be found outside the front of the shop will be stocked with a fantastic range of local and homemade food and drink on offer, such as their own homemade free-range pork sausage plaits and scotch eggs, quiches, soups, sandwich fillings, salads, pizzas and cakes.

They will also be selling quality food and drink from over 30 local producers, including Sourdough Bread, Doughnuts and Portuguese Tarts  – all made fresh that morning in Swindon by artisan bakers, along with stock local preserves, pickles, cheeses, milk, cream, butter, beers, ciders, wines, our own local gin, biscuits, oils and dressings, plus lots more. 

Andrews Quality Meat’s will be offering their awesome burgers, hotdogs and of course their awesome pulled pork baps cooked right in front of you on the grill as well as offering their local produce in store.

The King & Queen and Saracens Pubs, along with The Highworth will be offering food and drink with take away plastic glasses for those who just don’t want to miss any of the action. The Highworth will also be offering tapas from 3pm and live music from 4pm.

Saracens Pub will be offering breakfast from 8:30am to 10:30am and their main menu will be available from 12noon to 8:30pm. Speaking to bar man James, he said: “We are all looking forward to the community of Highworth getting together for this great annual event”.

Chloe’s Bakery:

After 4years on the market, Chloe have taken the leap and opened her own bakery on the high street, which as well as selling her delicious home made cakes, this little Bakery offers a relaxed place to sit down have a tea or coffee and sells a selection of in-house baked bread. Talking to Chloe, she said: “The team and I are really excited, and nervous all at the same time, we are finally open after lots of hard work and the amazing support from the local community. I know it’s going to be a manic busy day for the high street, and we are ready to show Highworth our lovely new Bakery”.

Chloe’s Bakery is open from 7am to 4pm, so why not pop in and give your support to the High Streets newest business.

On the High Street, other businesses open as usual and taking part in the festivities is the Award winning Emporium where the staff will all be dressing up in fancy dress, promising to be very colourful and how could we have any event in Highworth without the Emporium displaying one of their famously awesome balloon arches outside the front of their store!

Award winning Cabin & Cowshed Soap Co will have a stall out on the high street selling their wonderful natural handmade soap bars and soap products.

Speaking to the owners Matt & Michelle of Weigh It Up showed their excitement saying: “We think its just great how this event brings the town together of all ages, its a fantastic community! We’ve been here around 18months now and really love the high street events like May Day”.

Weigh It Up will be running a raffle to win a hamper, so pop in, say hello and grab yourself a ticket in support of the ‘Crisis’ charity as well as bagging yourself some great produces, don’t forget the ‘Pic n Mix’ sweets, we will be!

Evening Entertainment at The Highworth:

The evening kicks off with The Highworth Hotel with a tapas menu available from 3pm to 8pm and live music from 4pm provided by music duo Jade and Dan.

Speaking to Emily the manager of The Highworth, she said: “We are all excited and looking forward to this Saturday, so come in and say hi, you don’t need to book a table for our tapas menu, just come on in.

The Highworth will also be selling vouchers for their popular Afternoon Tea, a great gift for family and friends.

The Highworth May Day After Party at the King & Queen:

The King & Queen pub will be open from 10am, staying open all the way till 1am! Along with food and drink available all day, customers will be able to take out drinks in plastic glasses so not to miss out on all the fun in the high street.

The team at the King & Queen are also excited to be putting on the Highworth May Day ‘After Party’! There will be fantastic live music performed by Shuffle Play, with the night partying on till 1am.

Local band Shuffle Play are an events cover band that formed in January 2022 who play across multiple decades of music from the 60’s to present. Rocking out covers of popular songs ranging from artists like The Beatles, Elton John, The Jam, all the way to Bon Jovi, Oasis, and The Killers with a mix of genres from Pop Rock to Pop Punk to Classic Rock.

The bands name comes from how they shuffle through everyones favourite playlists. You’re guaranteed to love this evening of great live music!

This isn’t the first time this band has played at the King & Queen. We spoke to this popular returning act earlier this week, Will, the keyboard player and one of the two singers in the band said: “We love playing at the King & Queen! We always look forward to playing there, It’s always a great atmosphere, the staff are great and have a dance and a sing song whilst serving the drinks. Hopefully we can continue the buzz of the days festivities into the late evening.

The band kick off at 10pm.
