Swindon Cheese and Chilli Festival was a spicy success despite wet and start to the weekend.

Despite the challenging weather conditions over the weekend of July 6th and 7th, the Swindon Cheese and Chilli Festival proved to be a hot spot for food lovers with approximately 4,500 attendees braving the elements to indulge in a flavourful experience.

The event, renowned for its delectable selection of cheeses and fiery chillies, saw crowds gather at Lydiard Park, undeterred by the rain and winds. Food enthusiasts from near and far flocked to sample a wide variety of cheeses and chilli’s, showcasing the resilience and spirit of the Swindon community.

Visitors were treated to a feast for the senses as they explored stalls offering tantalising cheese platters, spicy chilli sauces, and more. The festival atmosphere was alive with the sizzle of chillies and the aroma of melting cheese, creating a vibrant and lively ambiance despite the gloomy weather.

“We were thrilled to see the overwhelming support from attendees, despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions,” said Simon Stewart the event organiser. “It’s a testament to the love for good food and the sense of community that the Swindon Cheese and Chilli Festival brings each year.”

The Swindon Cheese and Chilli Festival continues to be a highlight on the local food festival calendar, drawing foodies and families alike to come together and celebrate all things cheesy and spicy. With the success of this year’s event, organisers are already looking forward to next year’s festival, promising an even more exciting culinary experience.

The festival kicked off on the Saturday to a very wet and gloomy Swindon, but despite less footfall for the Saturday than normal due to the rain, speaking to stall holders, the was a buzz of hot success.

Entertainment Swindon turned up on the Sunday to check out the event to better weather which cleared up to be a sunny afternoon around 1pm. Speaking to Wiltshire Chilli Farm they said “The festival has gone pretty well actually! Considering the weather and the football, we are really happy with how things have gone”.

London based company Spicy Rye’s said “We were pleasantly surprised considering the weather, Swindon has shown us a lot of love and we will definitely be back next year!”.

Our editor Mike Buss decided to kill his tastebuds in the name of journalism by entering the events Chilli Eating Challenge, competing with five more mad chilli fanatics where they each had to eat a wrap full of Reaper Chillis chopped up drowned in a hot chilli sauce that made erupting volcanos seem cool! Mike unfortunately couldn’t complete the challenge, only eating half the wrap.

Speaking to the challenge winner, when asked how he felt, the winner Ryan from Carterton replied “bit warm, but yeh, I’m sure I’ll be worse later, but not too bad” Possibly one of Mike’s toughest interviews with a mouth and lips numb and refusing to work, but got there in the end.
