Saturday 20th July saw Highworth Town FC host Swindon Town FC in a pre-season fixture at the Save on Tyres Stadium. The toss gave the kick-off to Swindon Town with Highworth Town starting the game playing down hill.

With just two minutes into the game Swindon Town found the back of the net after Alston found room to play a low ball in for Hutt to score. Slotting the ball past the Highworth keeper from close range.

From there, Swindon continued to dominate the first half with a further two goals as well as multiple more chances. The second goal came from Gonzalez in the 29th minute, followed by a third just two minutes later by Britchford-Stanley in the 31st minute.

Although Swindon dominated the first half, Highworth did have their chances. In the 17th minute, the hosts got their first chance on goal with a shot by Connor Mattimole which went over the crossbar. Later on, Swindon’s keeper Evans denied Highworth pulling one back with a save from a great shot from Sol Pryce’s free kick. Half-Time, the score was Highworth 0 – 3 Swindon.

In the second half with Swindon now playing downhill, the domination continued with winger Conor Britchford-Stanley shooting from outside the box, just 60seconds into the second half.

Highworth continued to play hard and were rewarded by a goal in the 52nd minute by Luke Wheelan who calmly put the ball in the back of the net, into the bottom corner beating Evans rushing out in an attempt to close Wheelan down.

The hosts continued to play hard, putting more pressure on the visiting team, putting another ball in the back of the net in the 68th minute by Dan Grieve, receiving the ball from Tom Grifthes. Grieve followed up with another goal attempt just moments later, only to be denied by Swindon Evans who had to make a flying save to stop another goal from the host team.

The final score was Highworth Town FC 2 – 4 Swindon Town FC
