The Liverpool-born defender began his career in non-league, before a professional move to then-Championship side Bolton Wanderers where he made his Bolton debut in September 2017 against West Ham United in the third round of the EFL Cup.
A spell in Scotland the Scottish Premiership followed for King, before making his name in more recent years with outstanding performances for National League side FC Halifax Town, joining The Shaymen in August 2019.
In his two seasons with the club, the 28-year-old made 68 appearances for FC Halifax Town, scoring an impressive seven times, with his performances during this period earning him the club’s Player of the Season Award, as well as being named in the National League’s official Team of the Season at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
These showings earned King the move to this Friday’s opponents Chesterfield at the start of the 2021-22 season, where he continued to have an impact in what eventually led to the Spirities’ promotion back to League Two last season.
During his time there, King was a key part of their side and saw the defender make just over 100 appearances and scored an even more impressive 13 times, with his performances for Chesterfield earning a place in the 2022–23 National League Team of the Year for the second time in just three seasons.
Capable of playing on both the right and left sides of defence, King’s defensive capabilities and clear goal threat will be something that will be a strong addition to Swindon Town, having experienced playing at The County Ground for the first time last weekend, playing under the name ‘Trialist A’ during Town’s 1-0 pre-season victory over League One side Wycombe Wanderers last weekend.
After completing his move to the club, Town’s latest addition said: From the moment I came in last week, I felt really at home straight away and had a great feeling about it.
“I’m really excited now for what’s ahead and can’t wait to get going here.
“I want to be helping a big club get up the leagues and that is my goal to be part of this squad and hopefully have a little bit of history myself here.
“I feel like I’ve got a bit more to give, I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am today. and I’m really hoping I can do it with Swindon.”
Jeff King becomes our latest addition of the 2024-25 summer transfer window, and we look forward to seeing him in action as a signed Town player.
