If you love to sing then the Good Afternoon Choirs are right up your street!  Starting back Wednesday 4th September at Highworth Community Centre, the Highworth & Shrivenham GAC is for everyone, so why not come along…

With over a thousand singers across the west of England, there’s no doubt that singing in the afternoon is a wonderful hobby.  No audition and a chance to sing some great music, make new friends and have a good time.  Sarah Summers will be the new choir leader taking over in September and for anyone going along to “discover” the choir for the first time, there is no charge for your first rehearsal.  The choir rehearsals are from 1-3pm and when rehearsals start again the choir will be working towards Christmas concerts and fundraising for local organisations.

Bring a friend… enjoying Singing in the Afternoon and if you want further information, all choirs are fully detailed on www.goodafternoonchoirs.org

The Good Afternoon Choir founder is Grenville Jones who was born and raised in Swindon.  He is well known for his many appearances on radio and television and started his first Good Afternoon Choir in Bath, 15 years ago.

The Good Afternoon Choir founder is Grenville Jones

As one of the leading choir conductors in the UK, Grenville recognised that “singing in the afternoon” could provide an exciting opportunity for retired folk to sing together and be home in time for the Six O’Clock News!

There are now 32 Good Afternoon Choirs across the west of England and London, and in the Swindon area.  The North Swindon Good Afternoon Choir takes place at St John’s Haydon Wick on Thursdays at 1-3pm,  and the Highworth with Shrivenham Good Afternoon Choir takes place Highworth Community Centre  on Wednesdays from 1-3pm.

Both choirs are conducted by Sarah Summers who is well-known across the area with her involvement with singers and music groups.  Purton-born before moving to Swindon, Grenville’s father, Harry Jones was well-known as  methodist Local Preacher and the family attended St Andrew’s Methodist Church near Haydon Wick.  Through his music connections Grenville has appeared on radio and TV across the world, and in addition to his choir work, is also the founder of the Goldies Charity which has a number of fun singing sessions in and around Swindon supported by Swindon Borough Council… Yes he’s a busy man!

Back to the Good Afternoon Choirs where there are no auditions and everyone is welcome to come along and discover the music, the friendship and the fun of singing with Sarah.  All the choirs are listed on wwwgoodafternoonchoir.org
