The most terrifying creature in the universe is back!!! The Alien franchise has a new addition, Alien: Romulus. The movie is set 20years after the 1979 original Alien movie and before Aliens, however it is still a stand alone movie for those who have never seen any of the franchise before.
Whilst scavenging in space a young crew of colonisers come across a derelict space station called Renaissance, and instead of reaping the spoils, stripping the station for parts, they come across its dark secret!

The movie directed by Fede Alvarez, & produced Ridley Scott is set for release on 16th August 2024, although set between the first two movies, is a stand alone movie in its own right. The movie starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson and Archie Renaux follows a group of young colonisers on the space station ‘Renaissance’ who find themselves confronted by the most terrifying creature in the universe! The Xenomorph.
Taking place just 20years after the original movie starring Sigourney Weaver, the crew in Romulus land on the abandoned space station Renaissance in the hope of stripping it for parts. However its not long before they realise the space station holds a dark secret! Romulus is filmed in the same suspenseful atmosphere as the 1979 movie Alien, this is a Horror movie set in space! Not a Sci-Fi like the rest of the franchise would end up going. Using the suspenseful atmosphere used in the original and filming the whole movie in chronological order, you are left not knowing who will die next, you’ve no idea who is going to live. Being filmed this way left the cast not knowing either, leaving them with emotional goodbyes on set one by one as the next cast member is killed off.

Sequels have been a mixed bag over the years, but the latest addition to the franchise has taken the very best elements of the first two movies giving audiences exactly what they want, leaping facehuggers, chest busting aliens, pulse rifles and even reference to Prometheus. Alvarez has stayed true to the original two movies, staying close to everything that made these first two movies iconic greats!
Like the 1979 original, the movie starts with a suspenseful atmosphere, keeping you on the edge of your seat expecting a Xenomorph or Facehugger jumping out from every shadow or from every corner, by the second hour of the movie the tempo picks up emulating Aliens (1986).
Rain played by Cailee Spaeny is the movies answer to Ripley, who has a complicated relationship with her adoptive synthetic brother Andy played by David Jonsson.
The movie takes you on a journey of anxiety fuelled stress playing homage to what made the first two movies great movies using old-school techniques of the original movie such as miniature models, animatronics, model work alongside todays CGI, keeping the movie realistic looking, unlike other movies today such as Transformers with its over the top CGI.
We give this a 4 out of 5 Star Rating, the only reason we didn’t give it a 5 Star Rating is 5 can only be given to the original 1979 movie!
