Swindon Town are delighted to announce the loan signing of goalkeeper Daniel Barden from Championship side Norwich City, subject to EFL approval.
Barden joins the club having made two Championship appearances for his parent club back in the 2020/21 season, before numerous loan spells at Bury Town, Livingston and Maidstone United to enhance his development within men’s first-team football.
The 23-year-old also has youth international experience with Wales, having been a part of the U19s squad a few seasons ago, before being called up to the U21s squad in 2021, where he played against the Republic of Ireland for his country.
Town’s latest addition joins the club having made several senior appearances within the EFL and National League, as well as various cup competitions such as the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy and will now look to compete with current number one, Jack Bycroft for a spot in the starting XI.
Upon signing for Swindon Town, Daniel Barden said: “I’m really excited to be here, it’s happened all quite quickly but excited to start the work for the team.
“It happened pretty quickly when I was told Swindon were interested so I think where I was in my career, it was a move that made sense for me.
“This is an opportunity where after speaking with the Head Coach and the Goalkeeping Coach who have given me the chance to be involved in league football again.
“I want to be pushing for that number one spot in the league.”
Following Barden’s arrival, Head of Football Jamie Russell, also added: “He’s come from Norwich and has experience of playing at Championship level, which is the kind of experience which is vital for the kind of player we’re looking for to come into the group.
“What makes Dan even more suited to how we want to set up this season is his mental strength and determination to get back playing and this is shown in the challenges he’s faced so far in his career.
“He sets himself a good standard of performance with his showings when he has played at Norwich but also with the likes of Maidstone when he spent time there and we feel he will bring the ideal level of competition for our current goalkeeping set-up.
“We also need to mention the work that our First-Team Goalkeeping Coach Steve Mildenhall (Mildy) has worked tirelessly to get Dan in and he’s one that he identified as someone who would be an ideal fit for the kind of goalkeeper we are after to fight for that number one spot.”
Daniel Barden becomes Swindon Town’s latest addition of the 2024-25 summer transfer window, with the team looking forward to seeing him in action as a signed Town player.
