Last weekend saw another big headliner at The Cow Nightclub in town. The Cow hosted DJ legend Westwood for a night of banging tunes supported by local DJ Silver and DJ Stavo from Bristol for the latest Eruption Urban Swindon event.
Westwood who has over 1million subscribers to his YouTube Channel where he has interviewed some of the biggest names in Hip Hop, & Grime, including Jay-Z and Eminem.
Westwood’s career started in the late 1970s when he helped set up sound systems in clubs in northwest London, taking opportunities to work as a DJ, and then warming up for David Rodigan, from there Westwood got his first radio show on the London pirate radio station LWR before moving to Kiss FM which he co-owned. In 1994 Westwood moved to BBC Radio 1 from Capital FM to present ‘Its New Rap Show’ which launched with a live concert featuring Puff Daddy and the Notorious B.I.G.
Since leaving the BBC, Westwood has re-joined Capital FM on its sister station Capital Xtra. As well as being one of the UKs most sort after DJs, Westwood has also had great success on TV, appearing on BBC & ITV as well as hosting MTV’s series Pimp My RIde UK which ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2007 where a lucky viewers car would be “Pimped”.
The Cow owners promise to bring big nights, big names and banging nights back to the town which has seen nightlife take a huge hit over the last decade with the bottom of town which was once vibrant with multiple clubs and bars and now more like a backdrop to a scene from The Walking Dead.
Speaking to the owners, it was very apparent they want to help bring back the night time economy to the town centre and the vibe that came with it by supporting local charity fundraising events and bringing tribute bands, live music, popular celebrities and variety to the Swindon night scene.
Entertainment Swindon has been told to look out for big things and lots of great news coming from The Cow in the coming months.
