Not long now until this years Swindon Open Studios sees local Swindon artists open the doors to their studios, homes and exhibition spaces to the public. Hot off the back of the amazing Swindon Paint Fest that has brightened up walls all over Swindon, its time for more art…

Chris Daw is a self-taught artist who just picked up a paint brush one day and thought “let’s see what happens”.

This months event gives the public the chance to see where and how their art is made across two consecutive weekends is an annual community exhibition during which artists invite members of the public into their studios, homes and exhibition spaces for a chance to see where and how their art is made across two consecutive weekends.

This is a free event for visitors but you will have the opportunity to buy original, affordable art directly from the artist, 21st – 22nd and 28th – 29th September.

What is the Swindon Open Studios event:

Swindon Open Studios is an annual community exhibition during which artists invite members of the public into their studios and homes for a chance to see where and how their art is made during two consecutive weekends with a chance to buy original pieces of art.

Swindon Open Studios is organised by a committee of volunteers who are passionate about art and keen to publicise each other and the artwork being produced in Swindon.

The first Open Studios was in 2004 with a follow up in 2006. From 2008 onwards the open studios event has been held annually until the intervention of COVID in 2020 and 2021.

2022 saw the welcome return of this popular community event and last year, we saw the largest number of artists participating since the event’s inception.

In celebrating 20 years of of Swindon Open Studios, 2024 looks set to be another bumper year.

Swindon Open Studios is run by volunteers and supported by the artists themselves through a modest participation fee.  In addition, SOS have gained to local businesses who support the event both in practical terms and financially in the form of paid advertising. 

This year, includes long-term supporters Deacons Jewellers, Eastcott Studios, icanFrame, Red Rocket and Swindon Hub. As well as new supporters McArthur Glen Designer Outlet, Swindon Rugby Club and the recently opened The View Gallery.
