Local Swindon DJ is about to release his first music video. Mbulelo Mtandana from Gorse Hill who goes by the name of Silver Star has been a prominent DJ on the Swindon nightclub scene for the past twenty years was over in his home country of Tanzania for a holiday earlier this year where he saw how bad road Safety was, particularly for motorcyclists.
The high life-changing injury rate and deaths of motorcyclists on the roads of Tanzania inspired Silver to do something to help. His own uncle has been paralysed for several years following a motorcycle accident making this a cause very close to Silvers heart. A chance introduction at a sound studio with Jam Bito, one of Tanzanias biggest urban artists, Silver put the idea of a music video to promote road safety for motorcyclists and all in the space of just four months.

Back in the UK, Silver has been busy performing alongside some of the biggest DJs in the country such as Seani B from BBC Radio 1XTRA and the legendary Westwood, and now is set to release his first music video ‘Bodaboda’ which will also be used by the Tanzanian government to promote road safety in a national TV campaign.

The video and track which was all arranged, written, recorded in the studio and filmed on location in the four months that Silver was on holiday in his home country of Tanzania gained support of the government when Silver approached officials with the idea. Police Commissioner for road safety MD Stephen Michael Deleli was already looking for ideas to tackle the issue of road safety and loved the idea, giving it full backing and even appearing in the video.

Dr Kedmon E. Mapana, another government official in charge of the Tanzanian Arts Council also loved the idea and thought it was very powerful and supports the song, video and idea to help save lives.

The music video set to launch this Friday, 20th September, called ‘Bodaboda’ which means motorcyclist has been endorsed by some big names from Tanzania. As well as Jam Bito who performs alongside Silver in the video, professional super middle-weight boxer Abdallah Paziwapazi, who has 31 wins under his belt and has appeared on Sky Sports Box Office agreed to appear in the video to support the campaign to help save lives, adding celebrity weight to the video and the message.
Former BBC News presenter Salim Kikeke, who has known Silver for ten years has also thrown his support to the music video and campaign, hoping it will save lives and spread awareness of road safety across the country.

Speaking to Silver, he said “being back in my home country of Tanzania after a long time away, I saw a huge difference in road safety compared to here in the UK, I felt I really needed to do something to support the community.”
Silver went on to say “If I can save just one life from this video, then it would have been worth it. It’s really exciting that the Tanzanian government have thrown their full support to the video and the campaign, I can’t wait for people to see the video”.
Asking Silver where he goes from here, he said “Well, the video Bodaboda drops on Friday and so we’ve lots of things planned to promote it and then its straight into the next project. At the end of the month I’ll be shooting my next music video with General Levy (famous for the huge hit ‘Jungle is Massive’) to release before Christmas, so its really exciting, I’ve gained management and have a whole load of tracks ready to work on and get ready to release over the coming months and into 2025”.
