Many Swindonian’s continue to reminisce the good old days where stalls filled part of the town centre on a regular basis for much of the 1980s and 1990s, with small business owners selling a variety of wares to crowds of customers, especially in the old Brunel Market.
You would regularly see the town centre bustling with people who would pop into town just for the market, looking to grab a mixture of bargains and unique items including clothes, meat, fruit and veg, books, sweets, gifts, and all manner of other bits and pieces.
After it closed, many Swindonian’s have missed not only the unique items often available, but also the vibe and the chance it gave for small start up businesses to get their nam out there and build a customer base, long before the age of social media and even the internet. There has been over the years an attempt to bring back a market in the Brunel over the years, but only recently has it been able to bring back that original vibe of creative and unique stalls that we so loved back in the day.
There is also now the market in the heart of the town centre near the fountain organised by Cotswold Market every Thursday & Saturday.

The ‘Makers Market’ held in the Brunel is held every second Saturday of the month in the Brunel Shopping Centre from 9am to 3pm.
