Local Swindon DJ and Urban Artist Silver Star has released his first music video featuring one of Tanzanias top Urban Artists Jam Bito. The music video filmed on location in Tanzania has been used as part of the official road safety campaign by the countries government and will feature regularly on Tanzanian national TV.

The idea came from Silver Star, real name Mbulelo Mtandana from Gorse Hill whilst on holiday in Tanzania earlier this year where he saw the road safety in the country compared to the UK was very bad, particularly for motorcyclists (Bodaboda). In a chance meeting with one of Tanzanias top urban artists Jam Bito, Silver pitched an idea of a music video to help promote road safety and the idea gave birth to the track Bodaboda and its video.

Silver approached senior officials within the Tanzanian government with the idea and was quickly embraced and supported, especially by head of the countries road safety, Commissioner MD Stephen Michael Deleli who was already looking for ideas to tackle the issue of road safety.

As well as witnessing how bad road safety was during his holiday in Tanzania, Silver has a personal connection to the campaign to help make roads in Tanzania safer. His own uncle has been paralysed for several years following a motorcycle accident making this a cause very close to Silvers heart.

As well as the commissioner of road safety, Silver has gained huge support from people in other areas of government as well as TV & sports personalities including Dr Kedmon E. Mapana, the official in charge of the Tanzanian Arts Council, former BBC News presenter Salim Kikeke and professional super middle-weight boxer Abdallah Paziwapazi, who has appeared on Sky Sports Box Office.

Speaking to Silver, he said “being back in my home country of Tanzania after a long time away, I saw a huge difference in road safety compared to here in the UK, I felt I really needed to do something to support the community.”

Silver went on to say “If I can save just one life from this video, then it would have been worth it.  It’s really exciting that the Tanzanian government have thrown their full support to the video and the campaign, I can’t wait for people to see the video”.

Asking Silver where he goes from here, he said “Well, the video Bodaboda drops on Friday and so we’ve lots of things planned to promote it and then its straight into the next project.  At the end of the month I’ll be shooting my next music video with General Levy (famous for the huge hit ‘Jungle is Massive’) to release before Christmas, so its really exciting, I’ve gained management and have a whole load of tracks ready to work on and get ready to release over the coming months and into 2025”.
