It true tradition for British autumn weather, the heavens opened up over the weekend, which was a perfect excuse to check out the spooky goings on at the Mamas Events ‘The Most Curious Mysterious Alternative Market’. This curiously fabulous event, now in its second year drew in a parked weekend of crowds looking for that curious and spooky purchase.

Set in the main hall of The Steam Museum next to the Designer Outlet Village, with over 60 stalls including clothing, jewellery, ornaments, accessories, chocolate and even local tattooists ready to ink you during the event.

This unique market, perfectly slotted in the calendar a few weeks ahead of Halloween is one of a number of unique market events in Swindon put on by Mamas Events, the brainchild of Hannah who as a small business owner herself wanted to put on events that helped other small creative business owners build their business, a business that is more than just an event provider for stall holders, an event that really supports the stall holders.

Talking to Sabrina O’Keeffe, owner of Charming Bee Accessories, she said “This is my second year at this event, Hannah and her team have really supported me and my business over the last year. They are more than just an event organiser, they’ve helped me with networking, my social media where they put on a social media workshop, and really helped and advised on what I need to do for my business, they’ve really helped build my business”.

Another business owner Colette of The Magpie Nest UK, a local Swindon business said “Mamas Events are really amazing! Hannahs events are outstanding, she is just such an amazing organiser”.

The event was full of some unique and creative businesses with great ideas for Halloween such as Seven Crows Chocolate Curiosities who offer creepy, different, but very tasty chocolate creations that look spookily realistic such as a human jaw bone that looked like it was dug up at an archaeological dig near Avebury, a large bone that looked like it was surgically removed from a human on a surgical table and a Ouija board accessory that really looked like it is made from wood! Since then, Mandy has turned her creative ideas into a business that has ended up selling her creations all over the globe as far as the US and Australia.
