A Nightmare on Elm Street became a horror classic through its iconic characters, and its influence on the slasher genre.
This horror classic reached its 40th anniversary this year. First released on the big screen in 1984, brought us a character that would think twice about going to sleep after watching it. For me, I was just eleven years old when I saw it on VHS, my parents had rented it from the local video store and whilst they were out, I had to put it on and boy did it give me nightmares for days to come after!
Over the past four decades, this iconic movie, now available for the first time in 4K High Definition on BlueRay to mark its 40th anniversary.

Wes Craven reinvented the slasher genre multiple times over, but A Nightmare on Elm Street remains in my opinion his greatest creation. One, two, Freddy’s coming for you… The moment you hear this rhyme, the hair stands up on the back of your neck. Krueger, the finger knived child killer moves into the dreams of the teens in Elm Street, killing the kids in their dreams.
The creative ways in which Krueger is able to kill his victims in the dream world, this and the thrilling twists throughout the film and the moving from the dream world to real world. With the inevitability of the kids at some point needing to sleep, one by one they will meet a terrifying end.

Its not surprising that A Nightmare on Elm Street became a huge success, a franchise and a horror classic! Krueger who was actually named after one of Wes Cravens own High School bullies is unforgettable with his red and green striped jumper a glove of knives, the scruffy wide brim hat and his melted face from being set on fire.
The 1980s was the peak of the horror genre, and A Nightmare on Elm Street still stands today as one of the best horror movies ever made.
