Under the expert tutelage of the SWASFT team, members of the public got to learn with confidence to give CPR and use a resuscitation machine that could one day save a life. As well as sharing their expert lifesaving knowledge, the SWASFT were on hand to answer any questions and to recruit more volunteers to become SWASFT First Responders.

Those members of the public who took part in and completed a 15min CPR session also received a certificate. The most important part members of the public could take away from their experience was the knowledge will help towards increasing survival rates for out of hospital cardiac arrest.

Dave Wilmot, Volunteering and Community Services Officer at SWASFT, who looks after Wiltshire said: “We are excited to be back in Swindon holding a Restart a Heart event again, this is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Swindon to come and learn vital lifesaving skills like CPR.

“We want people in our communities to know what to do if someone suffers a cardiac arrest, and to know how to perform CPR correctly. The sooner CPR is started the greater chance someone has of survival. By providing opportunities like these, especially on and around international Restart a Heart Day, we hope to educate and spread awareness of the importance of CPR. I have to say a big thanks to Brunel Centre Shopping Centre for hosting this event.”

Speaking to a member of The Brunel Shopping Centre management team, a representative said: “We are very happy with how the event went, its amazing how many people took time out of their day shopping to stop and learn such an important skill that could one day save a life”.
