With it’s stunning visuals, characters, and storyline which is as much about redemption and Japan coming out of the ashes of World War II as it is about Godzilla.

Godzilla Minus One is a perfect example of what genre filmmaking can achieve when created with passion and artistry.

Post-War Japan is on its knees, at its lowest point, when a new crisis emerges in the shape of Godzilla, a giant monster baptised from the power of the atomic bomb.

Shikishima, a surviving Kamikaze pilot, is attacked on Odo Island along with many others by the gigantic monster. After everyone are killed because of Shikishima failing to distract the monster, an overwhelming amount of guilt weighs on him. Fuelled with the guilt, Shikishima is now on a personal mission, teaming up with a large group of veterans to finally take down the monster known as Godzilla.

The movie, although in Japanese with English subtitles is very much still worth the watch. This monster-mash of action and human drama directed by Takashi Yamazaki truly honours the 70year legacy of Godzilla and its original 1954 debut to the big screen.

Godzilla Minus One, is a thrilling movie that blends thrilling monster action with the poignant exploration of the post-war trauma that Japan faced after the war. A movie feast for your eyes!

Godzilla’s visual effects are nothing short of exceptional, with Godzilla itself looking more menacing than ever before.

Godzilla Minus One ability to go beyond the monster mayhem, with its thoughtful portrail of Japan’s trauma following the war, with Godzilla embodying the destructive legacy of Nuclear Weapons and the devastating destruction they can deliver on humanity.

The movie is available on DVD, but we definitly feel this is a movie that should be seen on the big screen.
