As we love a bit of nostalgia here at Entertainment Swindon, we’ve put together the ultimate collection of adverts of Christmas Past.
Sainsbury’s 1914 Christmas Advert (2014)
We have to start with the Sainsbury’s 1914 Advert, which was made in partnership with The Royal British. The advert which at the time inspired by events 100yrs ago where on Christmas Day 1914, the guns fell silent across the trenches and the two opposing armies met in no-mans land, sharing gifts and played a game of football.
The chocolate bar featured in the advert went on sale at Sainsbury’s for 50p per bar going to The Royal British Legion, benefiting our armed forces community.
For us at Entertainment Swindon, this isn’t just the best Christmas ad of Christmas Past, but still today, we have to say this is the best Christmas advert ever!
Coca Cola – Holidays Are Coming (2020)
The iconic Coca Cola ad returned for 2020, some will say the original 1995 version is better, but we do love this one.

Enjoy the first most viewed advert on Youtube, probably the advert that would start a tradition to be Christmas Number 1 Advert each year. A cute snowman in love would do anything to give his girlfriend the best Christmas present ever…
McDonalds UK Christmas Advert #ReindeerReady
Every December, McDonald’s does parents across the country a favour by clever rebranding of their carrot sticks to ‘reindeer treats’. In a month full of chocolate and mince pies, it’s a sneaky way to make sure kids eat their veggies.
M&S Christmas TV Ad Featuring Paddington & The Christmas Visitor #LoveTheBear (2017)
In true Paddington style… A burglar is robbing presents from under peoples trees and Paddington comes to the rescue without even realising in his loveable confused way, making the buglar put all the presents back under everyones trees.
E.T. Came Home For Christmas – Sky Christmas Ad (2019) Extended Cut
After 37 years, E.T. and Elliott reunited, this forgotten advert from 2019 will put a nostagic smile on all GenX out there who remember heading to the cinema to watch ET on the big screen meet Elliott for the first time.
Atari ET Game – Christmas Advert (1982)
This is an old ET Atari Christmas commercial. Enjoy and thanks for watching. This is another great one for the old GenX, who remembers getting this one under the tree back in 1982?
ET THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL – on the Atari 2600. Published by Atari in 1982 was one of the biggest commercial failures in video gaming history. This game based on the movie directed by Steven Spielberg the same year.

A favourite that has come back over the years from M&M’s… The Red & Green ones really do exist!
Christmas Advert, The Bear and the Hare- John Lewis (2013)
Set to Lily Allen’s version of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, a grizzly bear experiences his first Christmas in a 2D/stop-motion hybrid in which characters are drawn, printed, cut out and placed onto real minature sets. Directed by Elliot Dear at Blinkink and Yves Geleyn at Hornet, with characters designed by Brother Bear co-director Aaron Blaise.
Hafod Hardware Christmas Advert (2019)
You don’t get much more cute than this 2019 advert… A small hardware store in Powys, Wales called Hafod Hardware became a world wide internet sensation in 2019 when 2yr old Arthur Lewis Jones captured the worlds hearts in a Christmas advert promoting the store directed and produced by Josh Holdaway and Thomas Lewis Jones.
