Swindon Town Football Club can announce that Jeff King has departed the club by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old arrived at The Nigel Eady County Ground earlier this year and made 11 appearances since joining the club back in August.
King’s final outing for Town was in our Bristol Street Motors Trophy group stage victory against Tottenham U21s earlier this month, as he now moves on to a new opportunity closer to his family.
York City have announced the signing of the versatile wing-back today (13th November 2024), the 28yr old who achieved promotion to the Football League with Chesterfiled last campaign joins the Minstermen on a free transfer.
King started his career in non-league for the youth setup at Altrincham, where he featured for a whole host of sides in and around the scene until his professional breakthrough.
Prescot Cables, Nantwich, Kendal, Trafford, Ashton United, Witton Albion and Droylsden all saw the Liverpool-born player pass through between 2014-16.
Bolton Wanderers then acquired his services in 2016, where King featured in the under-23s setup before a senior debut for The Trotters in the EFL Cup in September 2017 against West Ham United arose.
King briefly turned out for FC United of Manchester during their National League North spell in 2018, most notably netting a hattrick against Bradford (Park Avenue) during his five appearances.
After departing The Wanderers that summer to join St Mirren briefly on a free, it wasn’t until the following summer where King settled as a footballer in the North.
FC Halifax Town picked King up in the summer of 2019, with the player going on to enjoy two successful seasons with the club.
After 74 appearances in two years, scoring seven in the second season, he departed having won The Shaymen’s Player of the Season award as well as being named in the National League’s Team of the Season.
A switch to Spireites was on the cards in the summer of 2021, linking up with Chesterfield in the same division.
Three solid years with Chesterfield, which had play-off final heartbreak sandwiched in-between, concluded in promotion back to the Football League for Spireites.
A key cog to the machine, King featured 104 times across various positions during his time with Chesterfield, and even bagged himself another spot in the National League Team of the Season for his 2022/23 season performances.
Following a successful trial in the summer, Swindon Town moved to make King a permanent in August.
After 11 games at the League Two outfit, the versatile wing-back now joins Adam Hinshelwood and the lads in their fight at the top of the Vanarama National League.
Everyone at the County Ground would like to thank Jeff for his efforts during his time with us and we wish him all the best for the future.
