Swindon’s eagerly awaited Christmas light switch-ons in the town centre and Old Town have postponed due to a Yellow Weather Warning as Storm Bert is due to hit Swindon this weekend with heavy rain and windspeed’s of up to 50mph.
The Town Centre light switch-on that was supposed to take place between 4:30 & 6:30pm near the Cenotaph with David Ashley to swith the lights on, supported by performances by Rhythmix Goa, Swindon Dance and the Salvation Army, along with Swindon 105.5fm’s Shirley Ludford hosting the event.
The town centre event has now moved to Saturday 30th November, starting slightly earlier from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, with the same line up of performances as far as we know, but will be confirmed early next week.
Old Towns light switch-on event has also moved due to Storm Bert, with it’s new date Sunday 1st December between 12noon and 6pm.
Old Town’s light switch-on organisers are yet to confirm all the acts, stalls and attractions for the new date. A spokesperson said: “We have no choice but to move the Old Town Christmas Festival 2024 by one week. Everything will stay the same but due to the storm, and high winds, we really have no choice.
“All ticket holders will have their tickets automatically transferred obviously, but we cant set up the stage or fun fair in high winds, and it won’t be an enjoyable experience if it’s stormy, so we are officially moving the event.”
