This year, Porsche has fundamentally upgraded its iconic 911 sports car. And the new 911 Carrera GTS, the first street-legal 911 equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid, has accelerated ahead to clinch its first award – the Carwow Driving Pleasure Award. A new version of the all-electric Taycan also launched in 2024, and it likewise left an impression on Carwow, being highly commended in the Outstanding EV Award category.

For the new 911 Carrera GTS models, Porsche engineers used knowledge gained from motor racing as the basis for designing the hybrid system. The lightweight and powerful T-Hybrid system has a newly developed electric exhaust gas turbocharger. An integrated electric motor, placed between the compressor and turbine wheel, instantaneously brings the turbocharger up to speed. This immediately builds up boost pressure.

The electric motor in the exhaust gas turbocharger also functions as a generator. It generates up to 11 kW (15 PS) of electric power. This energy is extracted from the exhaust gas flow. The wastegate-free electric turbocharger allows the use of only one turbocharger instead of the previous two, which ensures a more dynamic and responsive power delivery. Adding this innovative boost to the characteristic 911 combination of a powerful rear-mounted flat-six engine and an iconic silhouette, lifts the dynamic and styling appeal of the legendary sports coupe to new levels.

In awarding its Driving Pleasure trophy to the 911 Carrera GTS, Carwow commented: “The Porsche 911 has long been the ultimate everyday sports car, and the latest version continues that trend. Introducing a hybrid engine to a car like this should have been controversial, but naturally Porsche has done things a bit differently and the results are fantastic. Sure, it might be carrying a little extra weight, but you’d never know – it’s more powerful than before and is still a joy to drive.”

A new generation all-electric Porsche Taycan sports car was also announced earlier this year, offering more power, longer range, quicker acceleration and the capability to charge faster with greater stability. From its first launch in 2019, the Taycan has impressed customers, fans and media with its authentic Porsche performance and driving dynamics – the new model builds on this solid foundation.

The latest Taycan now offers a charging capacity increased by 50 kW up to 320 kW. Its increased power output means it can also accelerate faster, and the car can go further with an extended range increased by up to 35 per cent to a maximum of 421 miles / 678 kilometres (WLTP). Additionally, all Taycan variants can charge from a 10 to 80 per cent state of charge in 18 minutes.

The designers in the Style Porsche studio also sharpened the lines and, most notably, added stronger differentiation to the Turbo models. On top, every Taycan offers an extensive level of standard equipment, and features the latest generation of the Porsche Driver Experience in the cockpit with an enhanced display and control concept.

The Carwow team recognised the strong appeal of the Taycan and it was highly commended in its Outstanding EV Award category. In the nomination, Carwow said: “There’s no denying the Porsche Taycan comes at a price, but you’re paying for some of the very best EV technology you can get right now. Available models range from pretty quick to blindingly fast, but no matter which you go for you’re getting a massive battery that can charge incredibly fast. The Taycan is a stunningly good GT car that just happens to be electric.”

Boxster and 911 also taste success in used car awards
Porsche has also been victorious in the Auto Express Used Car Awards, with the 911 (991) its champion in the Sports Car category.

The Auto Express Used Car Awards select the best cars across 19 categories, combining pricing and owner satisfaction scores with its decades of experience to produce a list of winners that provide both value for money and a rewarding experience for drivers looking to purchase a used model.

Further underlining the appeal of a pre-owned Porsche, Car Buyer nominated the Boxster as Best Used Sports Car in its recent Best Used Car Awards.

The judges commented: “The Boxster is one of the best cars to drive in any class and, now that it’s been on the market for a few years, it represents one of the most affordable ways into modern Porsche ownership. It’s sharper to drive than its rivals, offers open-air thrills, and comes with all the prestige and quality
associated with the iconic Porsche crest.”
