Friday night saw local stilt walker Phoenix Stewart From East Swindon feature on the popular Channel 4 political satire show The Last Leg.
The show focused on the new Trump administration, now in its first and very eventful first week, giving The Last Leg team plenty of ammunition to throw at Trump and his family from Melania’s hat to Trump wielding a sword and dad dancing with the Village People to their iconic song YMCA which has become Trumps election anthem.
Phoenix who is well known for being a stilt walker at many local events in and around Swindon opened his emails on Wednesday to find an email from Open Mic Productions, the production company behind The Last Leg asking him if he was available on Friday to be a stilt walker on the closing sketch impersonating President Trump’s 6ft 7inch Barron Trump dancing to the shows take on the YMCA, re-named SHIT.
Speaking exclusively to Entertainment Swindon, Phoenix said: “I phoned them back where they explained the concept which sounded hilarious! They said ‘Would you play Trumps son?’ Of course I said yes.
They asked me not to tell anyone ahead of the show swearing me to secrecy, before giving me further details. It was really hard! I wasn’t allowed to put anything on social media before the show, I was so itching to tell everyone. I drove up to Elstree Studios on Friday at 1:30pm after telling only my boss to get the day off and my partner and swearing them to secrecy”.
Pheonix went on to say: “I got to watch the show rehearsals at 5pm, which was really interesting watching the behind the scenes stuff. 5:30pm the dancers that I would be performing with practiced and I got to join them as I followed on set, where we did about four or five practices to get the camera angles, timings right. At 8:30pm it was hair and makeup, 10pm the show went live, 10:45pm I got my stilts on and went on set as Baron Trump to dance to the SHIT”.
