The Hyenas’ Den & the Canal

A Historic Discovery (1857) – While digging a canal through the valley, workmen uncovered a hidden cave filled with a 30cm bed of bones. Among the remains were:
🦏 Rhinoceroses
🐘 Mammoths
🐻 Bears
🦁 Lions
🪨 Flint tools from prehistoric humans

Archaeologists believe this cluster of caves was occupied by humans and hyenas between 35,000 BC and 25,000 BC. Be sure to keep an eye out for hyenas as you pass by the cave!

King Kong -A Giant Among Dinosaurs!

Standing at an impressive 10 metres tall, King Kong watches over the entrance to our Dinosaur Grove, ready to amaze visitors of all ages!

🦍 A Valley Icon – This giant-scale model of the legendary fictional gorilla has been a favourite at Wookey Hole for years, delighting families, dinosaur fans, and even the most world-weary tweenagers!
