Prime Youth Theatre are excited to announce the premiere of their latest production, ‘Grow Up’, which will be transforming part of Swindon’s Brunel Centre into a unique and innovative theatre space on Wednesday 12th – Thursday 13th February 2025.  

Grow Up is a performance created entirely by Prime Youth Theatre members. This computer game-infused production explores a series of milestones that everyone goes through in life. Audiences follow the young people on their stories as they navigate the world whilst growing up.

Over a year in the making, Grow Up will be performed ‘in the round’, with audiences surrounding performers from all angles. Lighting, sound and projection is being used to transform the currently vacant retail unit into an immersive pop-up theatre space in a unique setting.

Speaking about the upcoming production, Prime Theatre CEO and Artistic Director Mark Powell said, “Grow Up is the latest of Prime’s shows lead by young artists. The Brunel Centre opening this brilliant unit just for us proves what communities can do when they work together. This is a real coup for Swindon audiences”.

From characters to costume, stories and representation, Grow Up is an original production written and directed by the young people of Prime Youth Theatre, and explores stories inspired by the experiences of its members.

Erin Fletcher, Co-Director and former Prime Youth Theatre member, said “Grow Up is such a special show because of the people who have been at the heart of the show’s creation. It has been amazing to get to shape the performance with the young people and watch their creativity and brilliance throughout the project.”

This production is part of the national Grow Up! project, created and co-led by Prime Theatre, Beyond Face, Company Three and Mortal Fools – a group of Youth Theatres from across the UK, who worked together on creating their own versions of the show.

Founded in 1986, Prime Youth Theatre, based at the Wyvern Theatre is Swindon’s only professional theatre company for young people and has toured youth productions across the UK with the support of Arts Council England, engaging with over 15,000 people in the last year.

Prime Theatre run professionally led, fun-filled workshops including all levels of drama exercises and theatre training and take place in their professional studio in the Wyvern Theatre with professional training in partnership with Arts Council England.

Prime Youth Theatre members make friends, build confidence, nurture their imagination and develop performance skills. Beginners and emerging artists are always welcome.
