With Pokemon Day just a couple days away, we look into the rumour behind a new multiplayer Pokemon game.

Pokemon fans are eagerly awaiting news from the upcoming Pokemon Presents stream on Thursday 27th February. As always on Pokemon Day, this highly anticipated event is hoped by fans to bring with it information and even footage of the upcoming Pokemon games, including a tease of Gen 10.

Since the launch of Pokemon on 27th February 1996, developers have taken the opportunity to share more about what the fan community can look forward to in the future during the Pokemon Presents livestream.

During the 2024 event, players got a sneak peek of both Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is scheduled to be released this year, and Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket, which has become an explosive hit since its release last October. The 2025 Pokemon Presents stream is scheduled to begin at 6am PST/9am EST on 27th February, and just days ahead of the event, a curious new leak has many longtime fans hopeful.

In a new Bluesky post, prominent Nintendo leaker Pyoro shared a photo of what appears to be a synapse. While this may not appear to have anything to do with Pokemon at first glance, a huge Game Freak hack in 2024 uncovered a title given the codename Pokemon Synapse. The project appears to be a “battle-focused” multiplayer spin-off being developed by both Game Freak and ILCA, featuring gameplay similar to that found in Splatoon. While Pyoro has been correct about some of their predictions in the past, fans should remain skeptical until this week’s presentation.

While this mysterious multiplayer title may or may not officially appear on Pokemon Day, fans are almost certain to hear more about the upcoming Switch title Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Few details about the game have been revealed since it was first teased during last year’s Pokemon Presents stream, but the title is still slated to be released in 2025.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will take place in the Kalos region, previously seen in Pokemon X and Y, and will focus entirely on the goings-on in Lumiose City. The popular Mega Evolution mechanic from the aforementioned games will also return.

Pokemon Day isn’t the only exciting event coming up for fans of the beloved franchise.  The March 2025 Community Day in Pokemon GO will be held on March 8 and will star Fuecoco, the Paldean Fire-type starter. Additionally, a new themed booster pack will be added to Pokemon TCG Pocket on February 28.
