March is here and signs of spring are all around us—from daffodils emerging to the exciting new exhibitions opening at Museum & Art Swindon!
The Swindon Stegosaur has returned!
That’s right—you read that correctly! The Museum is thrilled to announce a new acquisition at Museum & Art Swindon: a vertebra from a stegosaur found right here in Swindon.

With the help of Dr Neville and Sally Hollingworth, we have identified this vertebra (or backbone) as belonging to Dacentrurus, a stegosaur that lived during the Jurassic era, approximately 154 million years ago.
You can now see this incredible piece of Swindon’s Jurassic past on display in our Swindon Rocks gallery.

Art on Our Doorstep

Open now! Co-curated as part of our Arts Council England-funded Unlocking Collections project, this exhibition reveals research produced by a team of volunteers. Through art made primarily by local people, they tell stories of Swindon, the places that define it, and the people who have lived here. Art on Our Doorstep: Unlocking Scenes of Wellbeing, Industry and Creativity in Swindon explores the ways in which themes of health, industry and creativity appear in artworks that have been in storage, or not previously displayed. These include new acquisitions by significant Swindon artists Harold Dearden and Paul Rudall. This exhibition is FREE to view and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10:30am to 4:30pm.
