We take a look at Easter movies for all, from kids movies like Peter Rabbit, to Passion of Christ to slasher movies like Holidays.

So lets take a look…

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers, now takes on the starring role of his own irreverent, contemporary comedy with attitude.

In the film, Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) escalates to greater heights than ever before as they rival for the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door (Rose Byrne). James Corden voices the character of Peter with playful spirit and wild charm, with Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, and Daisy Ridley performing the voice roles of the triplets, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail.

Passion of Christ

This epic from Mel Gibson movie is hardly a historical documentary. As Gibson who directs this movie himself asserts, and reviewers, religious leaders, and audience members agree. The movie however is designed to bring to vivid life the nature and magnitude of the story of Jesus’ sacrifice – an issue of theology rather than history.

Passion of Christ is the highest-grossing (inflation unadjusted) Christian film of all time, as well as the highest-grossing independent film of all time. It was the highest-grossing R-rated film in the US, at $370.8million, a record which remained unbroken for 20 years.

Bunny Man 2011

A couple of dimwitted teens get chased by a killer dressed in a bunny suit.

An American slasher film written, directed and produced by Carl Lindbergh.

The film spawned two sequels, Bunnyman 2 released in 2014, and Bunnyman Vengeance which was released on VOD, and on Blu-ray and DVD

The film opens to a snuff film, consisting of 8 mm footage of a handcuffed woman being stabbed to death. The film then switches to six friends, who are driving through a desolate area, who find themselves being harassed by a truck, driven by a man in a rabbit costume.

The Bunny Man continues to hunt the teenagers from the road to the woods to an abandoned cabin, and we all know what happens to teenagers in deserted cabins in woods in the middle of hillbilly-land!

Its low budget, its Leather Face in a buuny costume with yes you guessed it, a chainsaw, it sounds aweful! But it works and its spawned sequels and a cult following. Well worth a watch!

Life of Brian

The religious satire film by the Monty Python team that tells the story of Brian Cohen, a man born on the same day as Jesus and mistakenly identified as the Messiah. This movie led to accusations of blasphemy from various religious groups, particularly from Christians who felt the film mocked their beliefs and became one of the most iconic movies of the 20th Century.

Brian Cohen is born in a stable next door to the one in which Jesus is born, which initially confuses the three wise men who come to praise the future King of the Jews. Brian later grows up into an idealistic young man who resents the continuing Roman occupation of Judea.

While listening to Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, Brian becomes infatuated with an attractive young rebel named Judith. His desire for her and hatred of the Romans, increase after his mother reveals that Brian himself is half-Roman, inspiring him to join the “People’s Front of Judea” (PFJ).

Brian is later captured, but later escapes and scooped up by an alien spaceship that crashes on Earth, thats right, did you not read that sectio of the Bible mentioning aliens? Its not long after Brian is declared as the Messiah by people chasing him up a mountain and is again later captured by the Romans and is sentenced to crucifixion.

Que “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.

Holidays

HOLIDAYS is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time. The film challenges our folklore, traditions and assumptions, making HOLIDAYS a celebration of the horror on those same special days’ year after year.

A collaboration of some of Hollywood’s most distinct voices, the directors include Kevin Smith (Tusk), Gary Shore (Dracula Untold), Scott Stewart (Dark Skies), Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes), Sarah Adina Smith (The Midnight Swim), Nicholas McCarthy (The Pact), Adam Egypt Mortimer (Some Kind of Hate), and Anthony Scott Burns (Darknet).

Miss Potter

The story of Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved and best-selling children’s book, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, and her struggle for love, happiness and success.

Inspired by a true story set in Victorian England, a tale charting the life of Beatrix Potter, a literary phenomenon of the early 20th century. At a time when most young women of her class aimed only to make a good marriage, Beatrix became an iconic figure, swimming quietly, but with great fortitude, against the tide. A charming biopic that maintains its sweetness even in sadder moments, well worth watching.

Ben Hur (1959)

I cant remember an Easter in the last 40yrs going back to my childhood days where I never saw Ben Hur on the TV.

Yes an old film, but the story of Ben Hur is based around the time of Jesus and his Sermon on the Mount through to the trail of Jesus and his crucifixion.

Ben-Hur is a 1959 American religious epic film, directed by William Wyler, produced by starring Charlton Heston as the title character, based on the Lew Wallace 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ.
