The Prospect Hospice in Wroughton has been supporting people far and wide through the hardest of times for 45years and this year the Hospice celebrate that extraordinary milestone.

That’s 45years of people… Nurses, carers, doctors, cooks, therapists, hairdressers, caretakers, receptionists, accountants, trainers, managers, administrators, cleaners, traidies, well-wishers, movers and shakers.

45years of people who mop floors, answer phones, make calls, make beds, clean windows, shuffle paper, wipe tears, wipe bums, give hugs, give meds, tell stories, tell the truth, suffer, soothe, struggle, volunteer, get paid, raise money, raise hopes, deliver cards, flowers, understanding, plump cushions, fix handles, usher spiders away, befriend monsters, love, cry, sweat, worry, hope, wish, peel potatoes, make Welsh rarebit, take temperatures, take time – and be there when time runs out.

Prospect Hospice only exists because we want it to. The greatest of us brought it into being and the greatest of us continue in making sure it’s still there for when we need it most. We get to feel a part of that greatness when we support them.

We need it because when we face the worst, we can’t do what they do.
And somehow, despite all the complexities and mess happening in the world, we’ve built something extraordinary: a place where care is continuous, beautiful, human. A place where your loved one becomes everyone’s loved one. It is us at our best.

But Prospect Hospice needs money. It gets some government support, but it relies hugely on donations from all of us, the public.

The Mighty Martins, a family from Swindon will be going the extra mile to raise money for Prospect. Their story is so many of your stories too, and no doubt will be accompanied by Harry in the many ways he now exists.

Tony, Maisie, Charlie, Pat, Gowsee and Ruba are taking part in Prospect Hospice’s Challenge 45 tomorrow (10th May)…

Harry Martin, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, unusually manifesting in his lower spinal cord, gradually spreading up his spine, causing paralysis, leading to him passing away on the 16th May 2021 at the age of just 25.

Tony said: “Prospect Hospice staff were, quite frankly amazing, their support was pivotal, in looking after Harry and his family during the darkest of times. We will be forever in their debt.

This year marks 45 incredible years of Prospect Hospice providing compassionate care to our community, and we are excited to help raise funds to ensure they can continue this vital work for the next 45years.

The Martin family have chosen to take on a 45-themed challenge and we are asking for your support to help them reach their fundraising goal. Every penny raised will directly support the care of local patients and families who need it most.

Tomorrow, the Martins will be taking part in the Ridgeway 40, a 40mile walk along the Ridgeway, to round up the 45miles, the family will be rising at 5am to do a cheeky five miler before heading to the start of the Ridgeway 40. The family have been training hard starting with 10-15mile walks, finally upping to 20miles and more.

With only 23% of funding coming from the government, Prospect Hospice relies on the generosity of people like you to continue offering their outstanding services. Your donation, no matter the size, makes a difference in ensuring they can continue their important work.

Thank you for supporting this cause close to my heart, and helping make sure Prospect Hospice is here for the next 45years!

45miles for 45years of The Prospect Hospice. On the families fund raising page they say: ‘Yes, it might destroy us. Yes, the body has been complaining. Yes, we are doing it anyway’.

Tony, the big daddy of the family, is feeling his age and would like to do less mental things like this in the future (but probably won’t) and has declared this to be one last push before slowing down. Because this matters.

Support the Martins in their Challenge 45 in gratitude of 45 years of Prospect by donating what you can through the link below and share this on your socials if only because doing good things gives you the warm feeling.
