Whigfield really took me back to the dance floors of my young teenage nightclub days, remembering those days of the revolving bar at the Brunel Rooms and the good old Route 66 and Destiny & Desire!

Clubland Live had the Swindon crowd buzzing throughout, the weekend with the Could Be Real Tribute Festival also taking place on the Saturday. Organisers said crowds exceeded the previous year. Speaking to people in the crowd, there was an overwhelming response of people saying they couldn’t believe the Vengaboys were in Swindon, one said ‘Oh my good! Vengaboys are here in Swindon!”

For me, the highlight was the Saturday, I love Whigfield, the memories of getting down on the dance floor back in the day to Saturday Night was awesome, and it was great chatting to her back stage, but for me hearing songs from Bowie, Elton and Queen, even from tribute artists was just superb and brings so much nostalgia back to me! My first ever concert was Queen Live Magic at the old Wembley Stadium, and for as long as I have listened to music, Queen have been my all time favourite band! David Bowie kicked of the Tribute event, singing all of this legends greatest hits, Oasis and Stereophonics were of course fantastic. The Elton tribute act was definitely one I’d love to see again, he had the mannerism’s of Elton to a tee, vocally, he really did sound like Elton and back stage we had a great chat about how he got into being a tribute act and what else he gets up to outside of being Elton.

I’ve been to many tribute festivals over the years and been lucky to get full access to back stage and chat to the acts. Over the years I’ve found some of the tributes very Diva and almost believing they are who they are performing as, I have to say, all the acts at Could Be Real Tribute, hung around after performing, chatted, and event came out to chat and get selfies with the crowd, especially Elton and Amy Winehouse tribute acts.

As Amy Winehouse act came on stage, the crowd was thrilled to see the real Amy Winehouse’s mum, Janis come on stage to say hi and enjoy the show from right on stage.

James Watts, Swindon’s Chief Commercial Officer, who also took to the stage warming up the crowds for Whigfield on the Friday said: “The weekend was great! It was great seeing thousands of people use the Nigel Eady County Ground this weekend”

James went on to Say: “These sort of events outside of football, allows us to continue to move forward with making the stadium available for more events, helping the club improve its commercial revenue. The use of the Legends Lounge for events, and the such events as we have had this weekend is great for the future, and we are already in discussions regarding our 2026 events”.
