Swindon’s Artists Become Muses for New Writing Competition
The Poetry Swindon invite people to their Writing Competition event this Saturday where poets, storytellers, and lovers of Swindon’s vibrant arts scene will be at The Bakers Cafe, Emlyn Square. This event organised by Poetry Swindon and inspired by the towns visual art will perform live readings on Saturday 28th June 2025, 2:00pm.

The theme this year is Words on Art, Swindon, and entries in the form of a short poem (up to 20 lines), flash fiction, or memoir (150 words max) will be inspired by visual art seen at Swindon Arts Fringe events, or reflect on any art, from tattoos to public sculpture.
The competition is open to two age categories (Under 15s and Over 15s), with a £50 prize voucher for the overall winner. Winners will be announced and celebrated at a live reading on Saturday 28th June 2025, 2:00pm at The Bakers Cafe, Emlyn Square—a cosy community venue at the heart of Swindon’s creative scene.

“We want this to be joyful, local and full of heart,” says Sophie Boyce, organiser at Poetry Swindon. “This competition is all about celebrating the art on our streets and in our spaces—and hearing what it stirs in the people who live here.”
