The team from Stars of Time Events, put on yet another amazing Comic Con at Swindon’s STEAM Museum on Saturday (21st June)! The event that is the largest of its kind in the South West attracted fans of comics, pop culture & sci-fi from across not only the UK, but Europe too!

As someone that attends Comic Cons regularly as well as being a huge fan of Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Dr Who (the older incarnations) and Pop Culture (particularly from the 1980s), Swindon Comic Con, although not one of the biggest events, I think its one of the best Comic Cons in the UK. I’m not saying that as a Swindonian with bias, Swindon Comic Con has to be one of, if not the most unique venue for such an event, where else do you see Isambard Kingdom Brunel, alongside Daleks, Storm Troopers and James P Sullivan from Monsters Inc? The backdrop of Swindon STEAM gives the feel of being on the set of Dr Who back in the day of Tom Baker set in Victorian London, with Jack the Ripper running around.

It is always great seeing young and old, embracing decades of sci-fi, comics and pop culture, with many dressed up as their favourite characters. There was everything from a 7ft Chewbacca wandering around the event, Storm Troopers, Jedi, along with various Dr Who’s, Disney characters, Deadpool, Ninja Turtles and so many more!

In the main hall, was a huge array of pop culture merchandise, including of course the popular Pops and original toys and action figures from the 70s and 80s, to more recent collectables like TUBBZ, a little like Pops, but are rubber ducks created to look like iconic characters from your favourite comics, TV Shows and Films, including a very limited edition 50th Anniversary Jaws collectible, as well as many creative micro businesses, such as Glass Crocodile, and local Swindon based creatives including BespoKelly and Tipple Tree.

There was also a number of comic book/graphic novel artists, including several from Swindon, like David Cousens.

In one of the halls, off the main hall there was the tech zone with Swindon’s very own answer to George Lucas’s Industrial Light & Magic, Podpad Studios who brought along their Terminator AI robot T-1-FNY along side Johnny 5 Replica from Nottingham, Swindon Makers and ………. Flight Simulator and retro computer games for us oldies.
