The Porsche Taycan has won Best Electric Performance Car and Best Used Electric Performance Car in the 2025 What Car? Electric Car of the Year Awards.

The Best Electric Performance Car award comes for the fifth year in a row, cementing the status of the Taycan as the driver’s EV of choice, and continuing to surpass its competition five years since its debut.

“The Taycan isn’t just the best electric performance car you can buy; it’s one of the best performance cars full stop,” said Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car?

“And key to its appeal is its duality. If you’re in the mood for relaxation, miles pass comfortably and quietly. But if you want to drive the Taycan like, well, a Porsche, you’ll be amazed by how it responds, combining telepathic steering, tenacious grip and a near-absence of body lean.”

In addition, the Porsche Taycan picks up Best Used Electric Performance Car for the first time, reflecting its appeal as a pre-owned purchase. Porsche Approved pre-owned cars undergo a thorough 111-point check and are endorsed with a 24 month warranty.

Huntingford added, “Because it’s been around for a few years now, used examples that give you all this are available at very tempting prices. However, Porsche hasn’t been resting on its laurels; to maintain the Taycan’s advantage over rivals, the latest versions come with more kit and can travel much farther between charges. So, new or used, the Taycan is a great buy.”

The continued recognition for the Taycan was supported by an extensive update last year, equipping the car with more power, increased range, and faster charging. This was supplemented in March with a host of further refinements, including the standard fitment of the 105kWh Performance Battery Plus across all model variants and an enhanced specification level.

The rear-wheel-drive Taycan accelerates to 62mph in 4.8 seconds – 0.6 seconds faster than before – while the newly introduced Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package brings the sprint down to just 2.2 seconds. In combination with higher performance, range has increased by up to a third, while a 10 to 80 per cent charge can now take just 18 minutes, thanks to charging speeds of up to 320kW. In fact, the latest Taycan models achieves their highest charge rate in much wider window of temperatures, giving owners greater everyday usability. As before, the Taycan is available in saloon, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo body styles, and a variety of power outputs.

In July, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche launched the Taycan Black Edition. Available as a sports saloon or Sport Turismo, it features black exterior styling details, rear light strip with illuminated black Porsche logo, black interior accent package and the black-brushed illuminated aluminium door sill guards.

Furthermore, equipment such as Surround View including Active Parking Assist, 21-inch wheels, HD Matrix LED headlights, a BOSE® Surround Sound System with Electric Sport Sound, and black smooth leather trim are equipment highlights. The Taycan Black Edition is priced from £95,700.00 RRP to £103,200.00 RRP (4S Sport Turismo).
