It’s that time of year again!… Our TV screens have been taken over by Christmas adverts, as they tap into our emotions and excitement through the festive season. Over the past decade, brands had competed against each other to put out the best Christmas advert of the year. Over the years, John Lewis has been setting the bar, but other brands such as Aldi with their cute carrots have been pushing to become the years favourite as we sit on the sofa with a sip of mulled wine and a mince pie.

Ad campaigns anytime of year aim to tap into our emotions, as well as promoting campaigns that use the best tactics of content marketing to get us spending.

Christmas is a unique time of year for adverts, we really get invested emotionally and get excited about these festive adverts hitting our screens each year

So Entertainment Swindon team have sat back in front of YouTube to go through all of this years festive adverts, ranking them from favourite, to least favourite and giving a score out of 10. Let us know what you think and comment below.

All the big brands are putting out their Christmas adverts to be the Christmas Advert Top Dog.

But Who’s a HIT and who a FLOP?

last year, We loved Asdas 2024 Christmas advert!… As soon as the A-Team theme tune kicked in, it certainly had our editor grinning from ear to ear!

It has nostalgia, it has fun and comedy, with a fantastic mix of animation and live action. Asda really have lived up to the theme of this years advert ‘Go Big or Go Gnome’.

John Lewis was only just lucky to stay out of the bottom spot, with Gregg’s being the most boring Christmas advert of 2024, it was festive, and it was like Ronseal, it did everything its said on the tin, but that’s exactly what made it worse than watching paint dry!

Let’s take a look at 2025!

Argos: 10/10

Thought we were just for toys? | Argos Christmas Ad 2025

Repeat after us. There’s more to Argos…. Don’t mess with a dinosaur and a little doll! Just drive and do what they say and get on down to your local Argos… This has to be our top Christmas advert for 2025!

We love how Argos have poked fun at the preconceptions that they are ‘just for toys’, the ad sees a dad taken captive, and made to drive to a magical showroom.

Of course dad manages to get everything he needs and even impresses his wife in the process.

Boots: 9/10

Boots Christmas Advert | Pussy in Boots 2025

British retailer Boots have opted for a playful twist on the famous fairytale Puss in Boots for their 2025 Christmas advert, and pulled it out of the bag with a fantastic, fun and magical festive advert.

When Puss receives an invitation to the Snow Queen’s Ball he speedily rushes out to get some gifts ahead of the event.

Consulting his magic mirror, he’s soon directed to Boots where he finds the perfect presents for all his fairytale friends.

Morrisons: 8/10

A Year In The Making | Morrisons | Christmas Ad 2025 90”

Morrisons make it clear it’s never too early to start preparing for the festive season as it shows individuals from all around the country sharing their love of the holiday – with some humming Christmas tunes as early as August!

“At Morrisons, we’ve been growing, making, baking, and crafting for your Christmas all year long,” a voiceover says.

The advert also features a new recording of Jona Lewie’s beloved Christmas earworm ‘Stop the Cavalry’.

M&S: 8/10

Traffic Jamming | M&S Food Christmas Advert 2025

Dawn French is back in another comic and festive colab with M&S Food. This time she’s a frustrated driver, stuck on the motorway in Christmas traffic.

But, again the M&S festive fairy pops up again to lift spirits with an M&S truck ahead full of delicious festive treats. As Dawn French races to the truck in something that looked like a scene from Starsky & Hutch as she jump slides over the bonnet of a car, we see other frustrated drivers in need of some M&S festive treats.

Dawn begrudgingly lets everyone else tuck into the feast onboard, including a new range from celebrity chef Tom Kerridge.

The culinary star himself makes a cameo in the advert as another disgruntled driver stuck in the queue of traffic.

Asda: 8/10

Asda Christmas Advert 2025 – A Very Merry Grinchmas

Asda was our top dog in our 2024 Christmas Advert list, with an army of Gnome’s saving Christmas to the music of the 80s iconic A-Team.

This year, Asda have gone for a different iconic character for its 2025 adverts… None other than The Grinch!

Dr. Seuss’ green grump was most famously brought to life by Jim Carrey ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’, and a fantastic way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie, released in 2000.

Set to a new rendition of Let It Snow, the advert sees The Grinch struggling with the soaring cost of living before Asda’s prices offer a glimmer of hope.

John Lewis: 7/10

Where Love Lives | John Lewis & Partners | Christmas Ad 2025

Ever since John Lewis dropped The Long Wait back in 2011, they’ve been the brand to beat when it comes to Christmas adverts! But the past couple years they’ve fallen a bit flat, especially last year, when we were really struggling to vote it bottom of our list.

BUT! 2025 we have to say, John Lewis are back on form! We think this will resinate with many sat in front of their TVs, and may even bring a tear to some.

The new ad centres on a music loving father and son, and explores how a thoughtful gift can help you express all the things you can’t find the words to say.

Featuring a 90s dance-floor banger, that all of us GenXers will remember, this advert is emotional, bringing both smiles and sadness in this thoughtful ad.

Coca Cola: 6/10

Holidays Are Coming | Coca Cola

For a second year in a row, Coca Cola have used AI to produce its latest festive advert, which feature some characters from years gone by Coca Cola Christmas adverts, such as the penguins and of course the polar bears.

Father Christmas places a toy truck on to a table, where it becomes the iconic Coca Cola truck driving through the country with animals watching in awe as it drives by. Some have said the brand have got lazy, with even Hollywood writer Alex Hirsch going so far as to say that “Coca-Cola is red because it’s made from the blood of out-of-work artists”.

For us here at Entertainment Swindon, we always love seeing the iconic red truck, but would love to see a more live action advert next year.

Amazon: 6/10

Joy Ride | Amazon Christmas Holiday Ad 2025

Three lifelong friends sit on a snowy bench watching children sledding. One of the women fires up her Amazon app and orders three sled-worthy seat cushions.

When the cushions arrive, and before you can say “it’s festive advertising time” the three friends are barreling down the slope with grins that threaten to outshine the Christmas lights. A string version of the tender Beatles classic “In My Life” plays as the old friends are briefly, magically, transformed into children once again.

Amazon have again chosen to bring us an emotional festive advert for 2025, with this year having a twinkle of fun!

Aldi: 6/10

Aldi Christmas Advert 2025 Part 1 | What’s on the cards for Kevin the Carrot this Christmas?

Jury is out on this one, its very short and sweet as Aldi are splitting their advert into three parts, but with the lovable Kevin the Carrot back for another festive adventure with a Love Actually inspiration, we think Aldi have another great festive advert for 2025!

The first of a trilogy of ads has already hit our TV screens, which culminated in Kevin’s momentous proposal to his beloved Katie the Carrot.

Aldi also promise two more adverts set to unfold throughout the festive period, promising further fun, surprises, and plenty of Aldi Christmas spirit.

Sainsbury’s: 5/10

The Unexpected Guest | Sainsbury’s | Christmas 2025

Sainsbury’s reunite’s again with Roald Dahl’s BFG for 2025, after appearing in last year’s festive advert.

This time round, the BFG helps real-life Sainsbury’s worker Annie protect the public from a 48ft giant trying to steal everyone’s Christmas dinners.

A fun and festive advert with everyones favourite giant saving the day.

Sainsbury’s has also teamed up with Comic Relief to help distribute over 5million meals to families battling food poverty, and the ad shines a light on the importance of good quality and affordable meals.

Matalan: 3/10

Lights, Camera, Magic… It’s Showtime! 2025

Lights, camera, magic… It’s Showtime! Let Matalan give your home a festive prep into a theatrical celebration. Showcasing homeware, fashion and family moments, the film spotlights the excitement of creating a “Christmas masterpiece.”

It’s, festive and a little fun, but there are better festive adverts out there this year.

Smyths Toys: 3/10

Smyths Toys Superstores 2025 Christmas Ad is here! The Scent of Christmas Magic

Unlike Argos, Smyths’ Christmas advert is all about toys, as a young boy called Sam tries to figure out what’s in a parcel with his name on.

Sam gets some help from the family dog and the Smyths Toys catalogue before finding his way to a superstore, where he finds Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon.

It’s festive and a little heartwarming, but sits a little flat, which is a shame when this advert is all about the most fun things in life, kids toys.

Lidl: 2/10

More to Value this Christmas | TV Advert 2025 | Lidl GB

The message from Lidl is perfect, supporting the stores campaign to encourage people to ‘find the value in sharing joy by donating to Lidl’s Toy Bank’, and asks the Big Question, Why do we love Christmas so much?

The child narrating the episode points out that ‘everyone’s a bit less grumpy’ and selfish, instead enjoying the happy moments in life.

‘I think we love Christmas so much because we all want to make each other feel more loved,’ the child says. ‘I think every day has a lot to learn from Christmas’.

But although the message is heartwarming, the advert has just been left uninspiring compared to all the great festive adverts that have been released by other brands this year.
