Taking place on 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st December, the free family-friendly event transformed the gardens into a vibrant festive destination, offering four afternoons of live entertainment, creative activities and seasonal attractions. Visitors of all ages enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, with many praising the variety of entertainment and the opportunity to enjoy a Christmas event without the need for tickets or entry fees.

The programme celebrated Swindon’s local talent, with performances on the Town Gardens Bandstand from community and cultural groups including Swindon Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre, Swindon’s Ukrainian Choir, Emily’s Dance Academy, Wroughton Silver Band and more. ZapiekJanki, Hungry ‘n’ Thirsty, SoulFlava and ZuDuzo Kitchen, proved to be a hit with visitors who could soak up the festive atmosphere and entertainment while enjoying a variety of international cuisines provided by some of Swindon’s best local food vendors.

Families were kept entertained throughout the day at Santa’s Craft Corner, as well as free facepainting and glitter art, visits from festive characters and a wide range of interactive workshops and performances from The Magical Character Company, Stilt Walkers UK, Swindon Circus and Outdoor Arts Project, The Bubble Master and Swindon Story Shed.

A particular highlight for many visitors was the immersive experience within the gardens, featuring the towering interactive installations by Air Giants and the enchanting Magical Lantern Forest created by Swindon Culture Collective.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with visitors commenting on the friendly atmosphere, the quality of performances and the accessibility of the event for families and residents. The event also provided valuable opportunities for local performers, creatives and businesses to showcase their work during the festive period.

Cllr John Firmin, Vice-Chair of South Swindon Parish Council’s Leisure, Environment and Amenities Committee, said:

“We decided to try something different in the Town Gardens this Christmas and it was great to see all four days so well supported and enjoyed by lots of our residents.  Thank you to the Parish Events Team and all our partners who made these experiences possible.  The children’s activities were all very popular and the entertainment was a wonderful mix that everyone could enjoy.”

South Swindon Parish Council would like to thank all performers, partners, volunteers and visitors who helped make Christmas in the Town Gardens such a memorable success.
