Lego back in the 1980s was one of the most popular toys that kids wanted. Lego allows for immersing yourself into an imaginative world of adventure, from Pirate ships, to space.
As a kid of the 80s myself, I remember how mch joy Lego gave me and my friends, and the Leo sets we all wanted, some I did recieve at birthdays and Christmas, some I never got to build. So heres my look back at my top five Lego sets of the 80s.
#5: 6285 Black Seas Barracuda:
Back in 1989, Lego launched their Pirate Theme, a theme kids were already enjoying, dressing up as pirates and acting out scenes from swashbuckling old movies to books about pirates, such as Treasure Island.

So when Lego brought out the Pirate Theme, it was obvious that it was going to be a huge success. Personally I never got to receive any Pirate Lego, I was a year away from leaving secondary school, much of my days building Lego was back in the 1970s. Among the sets available in this theme, we saw of course, Captain Redbeard’s ship, the Black Seas Barracuda which was at the top of every kids list to get their hands on.
If you find this treasure up in your parents loft, then it could fetch over £3500!
#4: 6074 Black Falcon’s Fortress:
Medieval Lego sets have always been popular!… I remember having a yellow fort back in the 1970s (I’ll get onto that a little later). In 1986, The Black Falcons were introduced to Lego’s Castle theme, adding to the Crusaders a couple years earlier. The Black Falcon were the baddies, and the 1986 fortress was one of the most popular sets to get your hands on. Sadly, the Black Falcons were discontinued in 1992.

If you find this popular medieval set, you could be looking at around £700.
#3: 6392 Airport:
This set had lots to enjoy!… Control tower, helicoper, an airliner and plenty going on on the ground. The first Airport set Lego produced was in 1985, with this amazing set, before expanding to 24 different sets.

This is one of the Lego sets I remember as a young kid, one of the last sets I ever received.
Expect to pay around £400 if you find this set.
#2: 6075 Yellow Castle:

Possibly the first Lego set I ever received as a kid, and one of my most memorable sets I ever had. I wasn’t alone, this was one of the most popular Lego sets around at the time. The first Lego Castle Themed set came out in 1978. It featured an impressive 14 minifigures, including knights on horseback. It remains today, still one of the most popular Lego sets, and getting hold of a good condition set could see you parting with around £8000, especially if its in pristine condition!
#1: 6980 Galaxy Commander:
This spaceship set soared onto every kids wish list for Christmas, the Galaxy Commander was released in 1983. It included a landing pad, space lab, transport unit and five minifigures astronauts.

If you want this set today, you will be looking at paying around £2500 for an untouched boxed set.
