Paramount+ is about to launch its latest Star Trek franchise spin-off, the latest in a flurry of recent spin-offs is Starfleet Academy, set in the 32nd Century. This latest edition to the franchise follows a new class of Starfleet cadets as they train to become the next to boldly go where no one has gone before.

As the new cadets start their time at Starfleet Academy, the Federation come under threat from an unfamiliar enemy, and they are soon sent on high stakes missions.

Starfleet Academy, is set in the 32nd century, following the far-future storyline of Star Trek: Discovery, focusing on the first new class of cadets in over a century as they train after a galactic cataclysm known as “The Burn“. The academy campus, including the training starship USS Athena, operates in San Francisco, but also deploys with the fleet for real-world experience. 

Holly Hunter stars as Chancellor and Captain of Starfleet Academy, along with franchise returning actor Robert Picardo as The Doctor who you will remember from Star Trek Voyager, along with Jett Reno (Tig Notaro), and Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr). Guest stars include Paul Giamatti as the villain Nus Braka, Stephen Colbert as the Dean of Students, and Becky Lynch as Lieutenant Ya.

Starfleet Academy premieres on Paramount+ on January 15, 2026, with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases for its 10-episode first season, continuing the Star Trek franchise on the platform and has already been green-lit for a second season, although the long-term future of Star Trek shows after this is still being discussed.
