Tickets are now available for Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan’s production of Yeoman of the Guard. With a darker tone than many of their comic operas, this is the story of Colonel Fairfax, falsely accused of treason by his cousin who will inherit all Fairfax’s property when he dies. As he will be beheaded in a couple of hours, Fairfax decides to cheat his cousin by marrying the first woman who comes to hand, so that at least the cousin will not get the money. What he does not know is that some of the guards keeping him locked up are in fact plotting his escape – and that this marriage might be a little more permanent than he first assumed!

The original story of Yeoman of the Guard was set in Tudor Tower of London, but Swindon G&S have updated it to World War Two, a decision taken by experienced local director, Rob Burbage, who has often worked with Swindon G&S not only as a director but as a performer too. We’re also delighted to welcome back Richard Abrams as music director, who has spent many years assembling a full orchestra, working together to bring to life to one of the most musical of Gilbert and Sullivan’s shows.

It will be on at the Arts Centre, Swindon, from the 29th April to 2nd May, 7.30pm, with a 2.30 matinee on Saturday.

Tickets: £18 for adults and £10 each for under 18’s and families . Contact: SwindonGS@Hotmail.com or call Wyvern Box Office 01793 535534 for more information.
