Come and join us throughout February half term at Museum & Art Swindon where we will have lots of exciting activities to take part in.

On Saturday 14th February join our fun family workshop to try out different drawing materials, from charcoal and pastels to paint pens and drawing pens. Our Learning Team will show you how to create a range of effects and design your own fantastical world or mythical beast inspired by our Henry Orlik Surrealism exhibition.

Suitable for ages 7+, including teenagers and adults. Come and draw together as a family. No problem if you’ve never drawn before, this workshop is very relaxed and suitable for everyone!

Please note there are two workshops slots at 11am and 2pm each lasting 60 minutes. All materials provided. Must be booked in advance.

Tickets £5 per person, accompanying adults not taking part are free. Museum entry is free.

On Tuesday 17th February Dive into Jurassic seas with professional storyteller Kirsty Hartsiotis as she spins tall tales of sea dragons, devil’s toenails and other fantastical beasts! Relax on bean bags in our Fossil Hunters exhibition while listening to tales of fossil hunters and secrets beneath the earth. Hold real-life fossils from 150 million years ago and make your very own clay fossil to take home.

The session takes place from 2pm-3.15pm.  Tickets must be booked in advance. Suitable for ages 5+ only.

This is not aimed at children under 5.

Tickets £5 per child, accompanying adults go free. Museum entry is free.

*Please note that the Fossil Hunters exhibition will be closed for this event between 11am and 11.45am and 2pm and 2.45pm. Fossil lovers not attending the event will be able to explore the Jurassic Swindon gallery during these times.


Join the Mayor on Tuesday 17th February to celebrate Shrove Tuesday and decorate your own pancake to eat! Meet the Mayor, go on a behind-the-scenes family tour of the Civic Chambers and Mayor’s Rooms and find out how heavy the Mayor’s chains really are!

The session starts at 3.15pm and lasts 45 minutes.

Free, but must be booked in advance. Ages 5+.

Design your own fantastical world or mythical beast at the Museum this half-term! Create a magical landscape on our giant magnetic story board. Make an adventure story dice or chatterbox to take home. Take inspiration from our Surrealism and Fossil Hunters exhibitions.

All activities and entrance to the Museum are free.

Drop-in on Wednesday 18th or Saturday 21st February, any time between 10.30am and 4.30pm. No need to book. Suitable for all ages.
