Here at Entertainment Swindon, we have searched across the streaming platforms, Sky TV and normal TV! (guess what? theres nothing romantic on terrestrial TV on valentines day). So here we we go…

Notting Hill
Valentines Day is the perfect day to sit back and watch one of the best romcoms ever!… The movie is full of cheesiness, and thats part of its magic, Notting Hill delivers heart fluttering pleasure throughout. It a movie where the nice guy wins the love of his life, when in reality, too often the bad boy wins.
But for all us nice guys out there, the bad boy in this movie loses. Alec Baldwin’s cameo role as Julia’s horrible movie-star boyfriend, just makes the happy ending between William and Anna even more special. And who could ever forget the most memorable romantic line in any romantic movie!… “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her”.
The concept of this love story between Anna and William, seems so out of reach, an A-Lister Movie Star and an average Joe Bloggs failing bookstore owner, yet still feels bizarrely like something that might actually happen, it gives you hope that, the love that feels out of reach could actually really become reality…
The Proposal
OK… Just like you can’t not have Julia Roberts in you Valentine’s list of RomComs, you equally can’t not have Sandra Bullock! The Proposal, released in 2009 is a romantic comedy about a Hard Ass Canadian Executive for a publishing house in the US who’s visa runs out and the only way to stay, is to drag her poor personal assistant into it all and blackmail him into marrying her for a Green Card.
Margaret Tate (played by Sandra Bullock) is a Canadian editor-in-chief at a New York City book publishing company, universally disliked by her subordinates for her pushy personality.
A visa violation means she is threatened with deportation back to Canada. Not wanting to lose her position and life in New York, Margaret coerces her long-suffering personal assistant, Andrew Paxton (played by Ryan Reynolds) into marrying her so she can get her Green Card, telling him that her deportation would set back his dream to become an editor.
Suspicious U.S. immigration agent Gilbertson tells the couple that if they are committing fraud, Margaret will be deported permanently and Andrew will be fined $250,000 and may spend five years in prison.
Margaret accepts Andrew’s conditions that she make him an editor and publish a particular book that he has recommended. Everything is going great until Margaret meets Andrew’s family and the hard bitch exterior melts… I’ll let you guys find out the rest for yourselves, it’s one of those movies that most people didn’t have on their radar and a movie all RomCom fans should watch!
Jerry MaGuire
OK, we’ve all seen this one, no plot line explanation is necessary! Just ‘Show me the money!”
Hope Floats
Yes!… Another Sandra Bullock movie, I can’t help myself!… This romantic drama follows small town girl, Birdee Pruitt (played by Sandra Bullock) living the dream in the big city, husband, daughter, she thinks she has it all until she’s brought onto a TV show and finds out her best friend is having an affair with her husband.
With no other choices, Birdee moves back to her small home town and attempts to start a new life, needing a job, and feeling empty until an old high school friend, Justin Matisse (played by Harry Connick Jr) shows her she can love again.

Grease
“Tell me about it stud!”… Uhh Huh!… One of those movies we’ve all seen a million times, even if you wont admit it!…
Good girl Sandy Olsson and greaser Danny Zuko fell in love over the summer. When they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance?
A musical about teens in love in the 1950s. It’s California 1958 and greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Australian Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) are in love. They spend time at the beach, and when they go back to school, what neither of them knows is that they both now attend Rydell High.
Danny’s the leader of the T-Birds, a group of black leather jacket-wearing greasers while Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of pink-wearing girls led by Rizzo (Stockard Channing). When they clash at Rydell’s first pep rally, Danny isn’t the same Danny from the beach. They try to be like each other so they can be together.
She’s Out of My League
Featuring breakout performances by both Jay Baruchel and Alice Eve along with entire ensemble cast, She’s Out of My League is a great date night movie for couples seeking a lighter and slightly edgy romcom, then this is your movie.
Yes, OK, we’ve seen this same old storyline a dozen times in RomComs that came before it. Yes, its your basic run of the mill young adult sex/love story with predictable storyline, BUT it works! It’s a funny movie throughout, and in parts very funny, its a funny, slightly edgy romcom thats held its own over time, and a movie for those of us that have seen it that we keep coming back to, even though we can practically quote the lines before the actors do!
Kirk who is your typical loser who’s finished High School, but his parents spent his College fund and ends up working security at Pittsburgh airport, the guy is average at best, and then there is Molly! She’s hot, intelligent, has wealthy parents and a social butterfly.
But against all odds, Kirk who’s so out of his league, manages to catch the eye of Molly, together, they are cute and funny, and so very awkward. What really makes this movie work, is the onscreen chemistry of the whole cast, the believability of the relationship between Kirk and Molly, the director’s willingness to push jokes to their limits and, again, an abundance of heart that all add up to make the film one of those under-the-radar films that pleasantly surprises.

OVERBOARD
A cruel but beautiful heiress (Goldie Hawn) mocks and cheats a hired carpenter (Kurt Russell). When she gets amnesia after an accident, he decides to introduce her to regular life by convincing her that they’re husband and wife.
Joanna and Grant Stayton III are an extremely wealthy, pretentious couple who live aboard their yacht. They live off of Joanna’s family’s money. She is a bitch of a woman, who treats others poorly and thinks nothing about doing whatever she needs to get what she wants, which she always gets.
So when their yacht is moored in Elk Cove, Oregon and she hires local carpenter Dean Proffitt to do some work, she has no qualms of stiffing him the $600 for the job when it doesn’t meet what she wanted, despite her not specifying the issue to him beforehand.
When she and Grant sail out of Elk Cove, she falls overboard, the resulting injury which causes temporary amnesia. Grant sees this accident as his opportunity to ditch her. When news of a Jane Doe (Joanna) hits the local news and Dean sees that the person he knows as Grant denies knowing her, he also sees an opportunity: he will claim to be her husband and make her his housemaid – which includes her taking care of his four rambunctious sons – for about a month, which he considers the equivalent of what she owes him. “Annie” (what they end up calling her) is still a bitch of a woman.
As time goes on, Dean has second thoughts about what he is doing, not because of Annie being like Joanna, but because he is falling in love with her and it seems like she is doing vice versa. Can their love overcome the obstacles of her equally pretentious mother looking for her, or the time when she will ultimately regain her memory?

Pretty Woman
In a list of romantic comedies for Valentines, you cant just have one Julia Roberts movie!… And for sure you cant go through Valentines without watching, possibly my favourite of all… Pretty Woman!
No need to say anything, here, I cant believe there is anyone that owns a TV that has never seen this movie!
Pure Country
OK, so this is one, probably most of you have never heard of, let alone ever seen!… Pure Country is a romantic drama, starring Country Music star George Straight, and as a huge country music fan, I came across this movie through the sound track whilst looking through the country music section of HMV back in the mid 90s. As a fan of George Straight, I bought the sound track and loved it and went hunting for the movie.
George Straight plays country music star Dusty Wyatt, who has fell out of love with performing with all the glitz and glamour and decides to walk away from it, ending up in his home town where he falls for Harley Tucker, a girl who’s struggling to keep her family ranch from going under.
It’s one of my favourite romantic movies and one Im sure most have not seen, so I wont say any more than that and let you just watch it. Even if you are not a country music fan, you will still love the movie!
