Swindonian, via Germany, Michael Kohlweg’s debut one man show filmed at the Swindon Arts Centre, in Old Town, back in October 2025, has just been licensed and released on Amazon Prime Video! And Swindon is mentioned a lot!
Kohlweg will be known to many in Swindon from the local comedy circuit and gyms such as DW Sports Gym & Pro Strength where he was a personal trainer, self produced his first show which was performed at The Swindon Arts Centre in October 2025 before going shopping around in hope one of the smaller streaming services would pick it up, and with luck and hard work, Amazon Prime Video liked it and licensed it to their streaming platform.
Kohlweg told Entertainment Swindon: “I couldn’t be happier! It’s a dream come true, to have my own show out there for the world to see”.
Before taking the leap of faith to the States, Kohlweg started his career in entertainment as a professional wrestler, wrestling in UK, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Italy, as well as touring Japan, Canada and the US, even making appearances as an extra for WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) on Sky Sports TV.
With confidence in front of live audiences, Kohlweg, felt ready to give stand up comedy a go, and started running comedy shows in Swindon, Cricklade & Marlborough.
Kohlweg’s first show was at the Cricklade Club, Kohlwig said: “I was expecting maybe 40-50 people, so when the venue sold out with 130 people, and it just kept rolling from there”.
As well as performing himself, Kohlweg would organise shows with other comedians, initially bringing in unknown acts from the south west, before bringing in bigger names, with the last run of show featuring Hollywood actor Scott Capurro.
Talking to Kohlweg, he told Entertainment Swindon: “It proves to the industry you don’t have to leave the south west and film comedy specials in London. The south west has a great audience and Swindon has the theatres that can produce a show worthy of the biggest streaming platform in the world. And my debut show “Michael Kohlweg: One Night Stand… Up” stands as proof of that”.
The stand-up show includes stories about meeting and marrying the love of his life, who he calls his ‘gert lush’ Bristol partner. The show also covers awkward real-life encounters, and the reality of starting a business abroad—giving it a mix of local flavour and international perspective.
Kohlweg, who now lives in California with his ‘gert lush’ since 2024, owns a gym in San Jose called Thunder Fitness, has also continued his comedy career, touring the west coast currently with dates in Santa Cruz, Gilroy, San Jose and San Francisco through to May before heading back to UK for a run of shows in June.
