Saturday (30th May) saw record breaking numbers converge on a North Swindon pub for the Arsenal vs PSG Champions League Final. Word got around after Entertainment Swindon teamed up with Chippenham based business Serenity Audio to organise the live screening of the last match of the 2025/26 season ahead of the World Cup on the largest screen in town, a huge 5m x 3m screen.

Approximately 500 Arsenal fans from as far as Cirencester, Gloucester and Oxford converged on The Shield & Dagger pub in Haydon Wick to join local Swindon based Gunners fans to watch the match off the back of already winning a historic Premier League title.

The epic sporting event at The Shield & Dagger was also sponsored by local businesses Inman’s Electricals Ltd and HD Scaffolding.

Speaking to Cat Mills, the Land Lady of The Shield & Dagger, she said: “Today has been just amazing! We just have not stopped, we have had a queue at the bar since opening, its been a fantastic successful day, more than I could have ever expected!”

Also speaking to owner of Serenity Audio, Danny, the owner of this epic large screen, he told Entertainment Swindon: “It has been a hugely successful day, I did not know how the day would go, I wasn’t sure how many people would turn up. We wanted today to be a showcase for our new screen, to show event organisers, businesses, organisations what we can do to really enhance any event, and we really have shown that”.

With a lot of hope, there was genuine expectation of Arsenal winning amongst the fans, and within 6minutes of the first half the Shield & Dagger erupted in surge of red shirts jumping in the air as Kai Havertz scored against PSG putting Arsenal 1-0 ahead. The noise was deafening!

But celebration would be short lived, although PSG were 1-0 down throughout the whole of the first half, the French team showed total dominance with 76% of the play having a PSG boot on the ball in the first half.

Moving into the second half, PSG continued to show total dominance of the game, and midway through the second half, Arsenal gave away a penalty, allowing PSG to level the match through Ousmane Dembele putting the ball in the back of the Arsenal nets to equalise.

There were a multitude of chances missed by PSG to win over Arsenal before the 90th minute, but the match went to extra time which after another 30minutes, the score was still level at 1-1, leaving it to penalties to decide the winner.

Not being a football fan, watching on, even I was frustrated with the final result thrown away by two of Arsenal’s players at the penalty spot playing games with the stop start stutter run up to the ball to fool the goalkeeper into moving before the ball is kicked. A ploy that just never bloody works! Every time I see a player doing this piss around run up, the ball always goes over the crossbar or wide of the post! Just run up and boot that ball in the back of the net!

That said, with over 70% control of the game, PSG in my books genuinely deserved the win and being champions of Europe!
