Some models not only leave their mark on automotive history, they also blaze the trail of our personal freedoms. By reinventing the original “4L” as an E-Tech electric model, Renault is not simply rebooting a legacy. It is reviving a lifestyle approach embracing versatility and the wide open spaces. The versatile ”’blue-jeans car” of yesteryear has gained a modern successor that is even more committed to meeting a full range of customer requirements.
For example, a car offering driving pleasure for every day and also at weekends. Not two different cars, the same one for all purposes. But with an extra touch: a car that is open to the skies and even the world. Welcome to Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud!

This soft-top version of Renault 4 E-Tech electric rekindles the flame of the iconic R4 convertibles, from the bold Plein Air – no roof or doors – to the spirited Sixties and its double sunroof for all requirements. Today, Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud is creating a new experience, bringing emotion and a touch of soul to every journey, along with a huge dose of fun.
Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud makes a promise of freedom without bounds. Drive with the wind in your hair in a cabin flooded with light. At the same time, all the fundamentals of Renault 4 E-Tech electric are intact: the instantly recognisable, charismatic design, the interior space, versatility, modular layout, boot capacity, low loading sill and even the capacity to tow a trailer or a small caravan! At the same time, passengers gain an opening soft roof of class-beating dimensions. Almost one square metre in size, offering the widest opening on the market for an unparalleled feeling of traveling in the great outdoors. The urge to open the roof is instinctive, accessing the outdoors to let in the light, enjoying the breeze and the open skies.

Even so, the invitation to take a leisurely drive makes no compromises on contemporary standards. In-car technology is transparent, dedicated to driving pleasure, comfort and efficiency. The roof opens and closes in just 10 seconds, controlled by a button or voice command. The RGEV small platform and its multi-link rear suspension deliver agility and a dynamic driving experience. Aerodynamic performance is maintained for both efficiency and acoustic comfort. While safety, a fundamental, remains uncompromised by the canvas roof.
More than just another model in the range, this convertible has all the credentials required by the booming market for small electric SUVs. A market where cars need to stand out. The days of wind-in-the-hair driving are not over, even in these more rational times, marked by a return to simplicity and efficiency. Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud is true to its heritage, eminently modern and wildly desirable. Ready to recreate the magic of travel?
A new level of in-car enjoyment, with no compromises
Why spoil the fun? With the Plein Sud version, Renault 4 E-Tech electric delivers more without compromising on its key strengths and features. A compact, go-anywhere vehicle, it is designed to seat five people in comfort. The 420-litre boot, ultra-low loading sill and even its 750-kilo towing capacity remain unchanged, with the added bonus of an opening soft roof that is easy to operate.

Unchanged overall design
This version is still 4.14 metres long with a wheelbase of 2.62 metres. It maintains identical proportions, an instantly recognisable body style, iconic illuminated grille, 18-inch wheels and all the aesthetic details that underline its appeal and bring to mind the original “4L”. Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud keeps the charismatic design of the hardtop version but with a new profile created by its black canvas roof. Only the roof rails and antenna are absent. The roof rails are not compatible with this opening roof, and the antenna is now integrated with the rear window.
Similarly, the choice of colours available for the body (11 with the Techno finish and 7 with the Iconic finish), and bonnet (body-coloured or black) along with the wing and bumper deco parts options remain the same across all versions. The only difference is that the roof and bonnet decorations qare incompatible with the Plein Sud version.
An opening of maximum dimensions
The canvas roof Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud has an opening 92 cm long and 80 cm wide. These class-best dimensions in open-top A and B segments ensure that all the passengers can enjoy open- top driving, both in the front and the rear. Eeverybody can take advantage of the open-air experience.

A moderate increase in weight
Despite its length of 92 cm, the mechanism for opening and closing the roof has only three folds, rather than the four usually found on similar systems. The structural components of the roof are made of polymer rather than metal. This helps to keep additional weight to a minimum. With the same finish, this version weighs just 19 kilos more than a Renault 4 E-Tech electric with a fixed roof.
No trade-off in range
This slightly heavier weight – mainly the result of the upper body reinforcements – is combined with a slight increase in CdA (from 0.762 to 0.778). However, battery range falls only slightly: by just 7 km (or -1.8%), based on the same finish, for a WLTP range of 392 km with the Techno trim.
Unchanged interior space
For passengers in Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud, the feeling of interior space remains virtually unchanged. The only change in dimensions concerns headroom:
- 906 mm for passengers at the front (compared with 886 mm in the fixed-roof version)
- 813 mm for passengers at the rear (compared with 853 mm in the fixed-roof version)

To achieve this result, engineers focused primarily on the roof lining and on the shape of the rear reinforcements, designed in a cap shape to limit the impact on passenger headroom and top of the trunk.
Easy to use…
Gone are the days when you had to get out of the car – and sometimes call in a second person – to wrestle with the complexities of opening or closing the roof of a soft-top convertible. With Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud, the task has never been easier. The roof is electrically controlled using a button on the overhead panel, or the voice control function of the Reno avatar when the motor is running. It can opened, closed, or adjusted to a range of intermediate positions to suit everyone’s preferences. And as Reno is based on generative artificial intelligence, you do not need to use pre-set phrases. You can just say naturally whether you want it to open or close, open half-way, etc.
… and fast too
In all cases, the key word is efficiency: It takes no more than around 10 seconds to fully open or close the roof, allowing drivers to react quickly in the event of a sudden shower or when the sun comes out again. The roof can be opened and closed while driving at speeds of up to 90 km/h. You can also drive with the roof down to the maximum speed limit on the highway, thanks in particular to the automatic deflector.
No other changes on board
Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud takes in-car enjoyment to the next level, with no compromises. No in-car equipment, features or functions have been taken away. As a result, the driver and passengers can still take advantage of:
- Spacious seating in the first and second rows, with the same storage compartments, including the map pockets on the back of each front seat, for a total 23.3 litres of storage space, of which 9.2 litres in the second row alone.
- A spacious, functional and easily accessible boot with total capacity of 420 litres, of which 44 in the form of underfloor storage with two separate openings. The extremely low loading sill (61 cm, 10 cm lower on average than the competition) makes it easier to use, as do the various hooks and elastic straps provided for securing items carried.
- The folding rear bench and flat-folding front passenger seat, providing a load length of 2.20 metres, a real plus. This lets you easily carry a small wardrobe or a pair of adult skis, for example.
- With a towing capacity of up to 750 kg, this model is also ideal for weekends or holidays with a trailer or small caravan.
