Endgame Encore is 185mins long, and set to return to cinemas on 25th September… The Russo brothers say its extended four minute Avengers Endgame Encore bridges directly into Avengers Doomsday.

The original 2019 cut runs 181 minutes, leaving approximately four minutes of additional material. That does not sound much for a three-hour film, but it turns the rerelease from a simple anniversary screening into required countdown news. Variety previously reported from CinemaCon that Joe and Anthony Russo had prepared brand-new footage for the engagement. The new runtime is the first public exhibition detail that indicates how much extra time audiences should expect, even though it does not identify the form or exact placement of those minutes.

The Russo brothers call the added story a bridge to Doomsday

Joe Russo has described the added material as footage set within the Avengers: Doomsday story and as a critical companion piece designed to connect Endgame to the December film. That wording is more specific than promising a generic preview. It suggests the sequence adds narrative information involving characters or consequences from Endgame rather than merely attaching the public Doomsday trailer. Marvel has not said whether the material is edited into the film, placed after the credits or presented as a separate epilogue. Until screenings begin, all three formats remain possible, and the 185-minute listing alone cannot tell viewers whether the original cut itself has been altered.

Four minutes can carry a major MCU handoff

Marvel does not need a long sequence to change how Endgame leads into Doomsday. A post-credit scene can establish where Steve Rogers went after returning the Infinity Stones, reveal the first disturbance caused by an incursion or show Victor von Doom observing the Avengers’ use of time travel. Those are possibilities, not descriptions of the footage. What is confirmed is the Russos’ intent to continue characters they worked with in Endgame and enhance the next film’s setup. Because Robert Downey Jr. now plays Doom after Tony Stark’s sacrifice, even a short scene can make the relationship between those two  movies emotionally significant without undoing Iron Man’s ending.

What the runtime does not confirm

The four-minute difference should not be treated as proof of a deleted Steve Rogers mission, a Tony Stark variant or Doctor Doom appearing on screen. No official synopsis of the bonus material has named its characters. Variety reported the Russos’ CinemaCon announcement of new footage; and Joe Russo says the added story bridges into Doomsday. Everything beyond that remains speculation until Marvel publishes a description or the rerelease is available for review. This close to the release, there is very little chance of any detail and we will all have to wait until we are sat in cinemas to find out.

25th September becomes the next major countdown date

For fans following Avengers: Doomsday, 25th September is now more than a chance to revisit the portal battle on a large screen. It is the next scheduled release of new story material before 18th December. The useful questions after opening night will be simple: where are the four minutes placed and which characters appear? Until then, Endgame remains the emotional foundation, while Encore promises the connective tissue. The distinction matters for readers deciding whether the rerelease is essential: Marvel and the directors are explicitly selling its addition as setup, but its real importance can only be judged once the new scene is seen in context.

The rerelease also gives Marvel an unusual chance to change the audience’s last memory of Endgame immediately before Doomsday. Instead of ending the preparation marathon solely with Steve and Peggy’s dance, viewers may leave the cinema with a new unresolved question. That editorial function explains why four minutes can matter more than their length suggests. It also raises an access issue: if the bridge is genuinely critical, fans in markets without Encore screenings will need an official way to see it before December. Marvel has not yet explained whether the footage will later appear online, on Disney+ or as part of Doomsday’s own opening. That distribution answer will determine whether Encore is helpful context or unavoidable homework.
