The festive winter experience at Longleat in Wiltshire just got bigger as extra dates have been added to its showcase event, The Festival of Light.
The Festival of Light: Legendary Worlds opens on 7 November and is already proving popular, so an additional January weekend has been added to available dates.
Scott Ashman, Head of Operations, said: “With more than 1,000 lanterns across the park, it’s promising to be an incredible event as we invite people to step into Legendary Worlds and discover myths with local foundations as King Arthur and the Round Table which can be explored through to world renowned legends such as the lost city of Atlantis.
“We opened an extra weekend in January this year and feedback from guests was that they really enjoyed experiencing the event in the dark nights of January so we’re introducing a second weekend for 2027 and will review feedback as to whether we do more in 2028.
“It means The Festival of Light will now be on selected dates to 17 January giving people lots of opportunities to see the UK’s original lantern festival.
“We were the first to bring the lanterns from China to Europe over 10 years ago, just as we were the first to open a Drive-Through Safari outside of Africa back in 1966.
“This year’s event will bring to an end our celebrations of the diamond anniversary but we’ve loads of exciting activities being planned for 2027 – watch this space!”
The former stable area of Longleat House will be transformed into King Arthur’s Round Table; Arthur’s story is one of Britain’s great legends and the West Country is at the heart of the Arthurian tradition.
Meanwhile guests will be able to walk under a giant blue whale as they explore Atlantis.
As well as the lantern trails, the event before Christmas also includes the opportunity to travel by train to meet Santa.
