Championship season at Wrag Barn is always about more than just the scores. It’s the competition, the nerves, the banter, and the moments that members will still be talking about long after the last putt has dropped, and this year, there was one moment that will definitely live long in memory.
Louis McDiarmid and Guy Drayton finished tied on 147 min the Club Championship, meaning a play-off was needed to decide the winner. What followed was a proper test of nerve, played over the 14th and 18th hole. After several tense holes, Louis finally sank the winning putt on the 18th to take the hole, and the Club Championship. A fantastic achievement and brilliant finish to the competition.
Guy had already claimed the Men’s Championship with an excellent 145 gross, two shots clear of Louis and Adam Jelly. Serena Bennett was crowned Ladies Champion after two outstanding rounds of 82 and 77, finishing on 159. The Seniors Championship attracted 81 competitors, with Andy Watts taking the Pakeman Cup with a superb 79. The future looks bright too!
Ruben Chauhan-Drane became Junior Champion, while Louis won Cadet 1 and Jake Cadet 2.
From the youngest members to the clubs most experienced golfers, it has been a fantastic championship season at Wrag Barn, competitive, friendly, and with plenty to talk about afterwards.
