“An Epic, Cheesy, Action Packed love letter to the iconic arcade game and the 90s fight games phenomenom”.

The live-action adaptation of the iconic fighting game from Capcom follows Ryu and Ken Masters, as they enter the second World Warrior Tournament with plenty of kick ass martial arts, some very cheesy comical moment and references that if you are a real Street Fighter fan, you will spot them.

Vue Cinema Greenbridge, Swindon.

The movie starts during the first World Warrior Tournament with a tip of the hat to the 1994 anime series in a totally new animation that mimics the hand drawn 90s anime classic style era, leaving Ryu and Ken to part ways. The Live action fast forwards to 1993, and protagonist M Bison who arranges the second World Warrior Tournament to draw in the most powerful fighters to harness the special Psycho Power to become powerful.

The tournament set in Metroao brings together the most popular characters of the arcade game, including Chun-Li, Blanka, E Honda and Dhalsim, with a few easter eggs to look out for, such as classic moves from Street Fighter II arcade game.

The movie is not the first live action adaptation of the iconic arcade game franchise, in 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, which also featured Kylie Minogue. Although now seen as a popular “so bad its good” cult classic within the Street Fighter fan community, the film was a huge flop and did not stay faithful to the 90s arcade game, instead became a military action hostage movie with Van Damme as Colonel Guile leading the heroes.

In 2009, the franchise was given another chance at a live action redemption movie with Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, and using the word ‘failed’ is just not a good enough description of how bad this adaptation was, with Rotten Tomatoes giving the movie a 3% Tomatometer score and audience rating of 18%. Both critics and fans of the franchise still consider this attempt as something best forgotten, a really bad movie!

With both previous live action movies being total flops, whilst casting big names of the time, big names such as 50 Cents, Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and Vidyut Jammwal, was not a sure way to box office success, however, this time they really have got it right, expect Street Fighter II game in live action, easter eggs throughout the movie from start to finish, tipping its hat to the whole franchise, the games, anime and the live action flops “For Me It’s Tuesday” Fans will know what I mean!

Street Fighter released in cinemas today – 16th October 2026 worldwide.
