Meet ‘Sunny’, the latest little ray of sunshine at Longleat, where an endangered red panda cub has been officially named just in time for October half-term.

Born at the Wiltshire safari park in July, the youngster is called Sundar, a traditional Nepalese name meaning ‘beautiful’ or ‘handsome’.

However, his keepers have already shortened it to Sunny, a nickname inspired by his sunny disposition.

And the adventurous youngster is now becoming increasingly confident, venturing out of his nest box more frequently to explore his surroundings.

Longleat Animal Adventure keeper Samantha Peeke said: “We’re delighted to announce this little one’s name.

“He’s earned himself the nickname Sunny among the keepers as he’s a little ray of sunshine to care for.

“We’re watching him get braver each day, so make sure to come down to Jungle Cruise to see Emma, Koda and little Sunny.”

Visitors may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Sunny alongside Emma and Koda as he continues to explore his surroundings.

The naming comes ahead of Longleat’s Spooktacular Adventures, which take place during October half-term from Saturday 24th October to Sunday 1st November.
