Ian Holloway made one change to his side from the weekend as Billy Bodin came in for Ollie Clarke as the Reds beat Gillingham 2-0 in their midweek clash.

The first chance of the night fell to the home side on the half-hour mark as Sam Gale found Bradley Dack, who played in Max Clark, who laid the ball off to Ronan Hale as the striker’s effort looked to be heading towards the top corner; however, an excellent save from Connor Ripley kept the scores level.

Gillingham looked to find the opener shortly after their initial chance as Clark’s corner headed towards Omar Beckles, who got his head on it, looking to find the bottom corner, however Ripley denied the defender from close range.

The hosts continued to search for the opener as the hour mark approached, with Remeao Hutton putting in a cross to the back post, which found Hale; however, his effort was blocked by Ryan Tafazolli before Gavin Kilkenny cleared away. 

Ollie Palmer looked to win the flick on from Ripley’s goal kick, with the ball eventually finding its way through into the path of Aaron Drinan, who went one-on-one with Jake Turner in the Gillingham goal before slotting it past the keeper. 

Billy Kirkman latched onto a loose ball before playing it down the wing to Fletcher Holman, who cut inside, in the area before looking to pick out Aaron Drinan, who was seemingly brought down by Turner, however any claims were waved away, and the forward found himself in the book.

The Gills searched for a leveller, as they played the ball around the Swindon area before full back Hutton cut inside on the edge of the area, however his effort was denied by the boot of Ollie Palmer.

Joel McGregor picked up the ball on the left wing before playing a low ball into the area, which was flicked on by Drinan straight into the path of Fletcher Holman, who slotted it into the bottom right corner to double Town’s lead.
