Match Report by: Match Days With Alfie

Swindon took on Leyton Orient at the County Ground on Tuesday 28th July in a hard fought win over the visiting team, again with a dominating first half, which saw first-half goals from Louis Millard and Matty Virtue giving Swindon a two goal lead going into half-time.

Swindon with several injuries, were still able to put out a decent lineup against Leyton Orient with a Connor Ripley starting as number one goalkeeper with Lewis Ward on bench.

Holloway kept fullbacks Mitchell Clark which is a positive as last game we thought he had an injury, and Billy Kirkman who had an impressive game against Bristol City.

Centre backs Negru who put on a good display against Bristol City and Mabete made the lineup. Midfielders Matty Virtue was also back in starting lineup. Ben Middleman also started again for swindon after playing against Bristol City Kilkenny was also back in the lineup!

Trialist (A) Jonny Williams was on the starting lineup, giving him a chance to prove he’s is good enough for that contract!

Forwards for swindon town Ollie Palmer started this time after being on bench against Bristol city, and youngster Louie Millard who was also on bench against Bristol city!.

Swindon, wore their new blue/black away shirt, and just one minute after kick-off gained a corner from a great tackle by Leyton Orient midfielder which was cleared away by the visiting side.

Louie Millard put Swindon ahead in the sixth minute with an assist from Palmer. Swindon gained possession of the ball in the Orient half after some sloppy defending by Leyton Orient, giving Palmer the ball, to send a great ball to Louie Millard from middle right of the box, with all space and time to slot one past the keeper, in the bottom left corner!

For the first fithteen minutes of the first half, Swindon were very much the better and dominant side. There were a few moments where Leyton Orient went on the offensive, like in the 18th minute, where Akharamirich low ball towards the goal was cleared by Swindon for an Orient corner.

Swindon were awarded a free kick in the 20th minute from the left hand side near the touchline which was whipped in by Jonny Willans, a fantastic cross headed by Louie Millard across goal from backpost to Kilkenny who heads It bottom left and incredible save by the keeper who saves it away from goal! Great move by swindon!.

A 25minute corner for swindon on right hand side, Mitch Clark gets given a great ball by Palmer from halfway line with again so much room and whipped in and cleared for a corner.

28th minute  GOALLLLLLLLL! Palmer is fouled and Virtue sends a great ball to Mitch Clark a very attacking right back on the right sends a low ball across goal to Virtue who scores for swindon town his first goal this season!.

Leyton Orient were very much on the defensive back foot throughout the first half, playing a very poor, leaving Leyton Orient in a lot of danger throughout.

A great display by Swindon, as they headed in for half-time, and sloppy by Leyton Orient defensively .

A few minutes into the first half, Dom Ballard on left hand side cuts in taking Negru away and Dom Ballard shoots towards the inside post and saved by the feet of Ripley Leyton, Orient coming out from after half time, showed more confidence and were visably stronger than first half.

Swindon’s scrappiness around the 62nd minute, needs Ripley to save a ball in from Ballard, nearly big mess up!

From here on in, Leyton Orient start to take control of much of the game, keeping more possession, as Swindon just looked like they were deliberately sitting back and playing safe, whilst at the same time, Leyton were continuing to pile on more and more pressure.

In 67th minute, Leyton Orients Joseph Oluwu went in with a nasty challenge on Swindon’s Kilkenny, earning him a yellow card.

As the second half progressed, Leyton was able to push more and more against Swindon, leading to a goal in the 75th minute from Leyton’s midfielder launching the ball over the top number 44, one man marking him touches it down brilliantly on right hand side in box and hit it slowly into bottom left corner goal for Leyton Orient!

78’ great chance for swindon ball won back in Leyton Orient half and down the wing Jonny Williams with a great ball in box Drinan lurking but nothing on it and gone wide for a goal kick still 2-1 Swindon!

In the 85th minute, it looked like Leyton could push for an equaliser, but Swindon held on to the end with three minutes given for added time.

Result: Swindon 2-1 Leyton Orient  

Overall, very happy with this display! I thought swindon dominated 1st half against Leyton Orient with Orient defensively very poor!.
