Simbaloo and Adelaide, Longleat’s lion and koala hot air balloons, took centre stage throughout all three days of Icons of the Sky 2026 both in the air and tethered on the ground.

“It was one of many breathtaking air displays and of course we had the mass balloon ascent kicking off the three days on Friday morning. Nightglows to music and fireworks rounded off the daily festivities which were added extras to the day ticket.
“Sadly, low cloud stopped all but some tethering on Sunday. This meant there was low visibility over Longleat, surrounding areas and the bases where many of the planes were due to take off from. It was also too windy for balloon to fly. Therefore, for safety reasons, we had to take the decision to stop event activities to avoid guests, who had enjoyed their day at Longleat waiting with us for weather to improve.
“However, overall, it was a phenomenal weekend, and it was lovely to see so many families spanning different generations here. We really appreciated the positive comments and feedback that safety must always come first and the work which went into providing these additional activities to our day ticket. This type of event is always weather dependent, and we are always clear about that in all our information.
“We would like to thank every single balloonist, pilot, team and crews who have worked tremendously hard to ensure we had two days of spectacular displays and to all our guests for supporting the event.”
The event also marked the 60th anniversary of the Drive-Through Safari with a 100ft tall birthday cake taking part in the nightglow.
